**ADULT Foster Parent**

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced caregiver to provide supports to a 50-year-old male with Down syndrome. Supports will focus on providing a nurturing living environment that meets his personal and medical needs, supports his personal development and supports community opportunities to foster relationships.

**The Company**:
Parkland C.L.A.S.S. is a family based organization, focused on increasing the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities through individual choice, dignity and rights since 1963. We support over 400 Individuals in Central Alberta and in The North West Territories.

**The Position**:
Providing a stable, supportive home environment; encourage positive development and personal growth; facilitate daily routine activities; encourage and assist engagement in meaningful community involvement; participate in the development and implementation of personalized goals; and promoting, empowering and supporting an Individual’s wellness is all aspects of life.
- Tax free monthly remuneration is $2,400
- A Community Bridger would provide support 14 hours per week
- Two days per month of respite will be provided

**Requirements**:

- Completed High School Diploma or General Equivalency
- Class 5 driver’s license and own vehicle (with valid insurance & registration)
- Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- Acceptable Police Information Check & Child Intervention Record Check
- Home must comply with required safety standards
- Ability to use adaptive communication skills would be beneficial.
- Must be willing to support individual with medical procedures, support him in taking medication, and assist with booking and attending medical appointments.
- The successful applicant will be willing to assist with meals, daily hygiene, laundry and choosing clothing. Some incontinence care is anticipated.
- Ability to provide 24-hour close and constant supervision is required; individual may wander or show curiosity and become vulnerable to others.
- Ability to follow the Individual’s support plan and goals
- A creative and active lifestyle is considered an asset. Required activities may include swimming, bowling, the arts and other community events
- Experience following behavior programs and positive approaches would be an asset.

- 10 hour shift
- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Night shift
- Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Red Deer, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Personal Support Workers: 1 year (required)
