Retail Customer Service Specialist

The Retail Customer Service Specialist is a valued member of our front desk team responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Discovery Shop and providing superior customer service at the front desk representing the Discovery Centre in a positive, friendly, and outgoing manner.
This team member has experience and drive for retail sales, managing inventory, merchandising and maximize revenues in the onsite and online gift shop.
**DISCOVERY SHOP RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Maintaining appropriate stock levels by selecting and ordering merchandise sourced from a variety of suppliers and community vendors
- Keeping up to date with market trends and actively sourcing new and exciting children’s merchandise
- Receiving and processing stock in the point-of-sale system
- Leading and performing accurate inventory counts twice annually
- Ensuring shop is visually appealing through merchandising, replenishment, and housekeeping
- Maximizing sales opportunities to achieve shop sales goals
- Planning and executing in-store promotional events to increase sales
- Maintaining the online shop and fulfilling online orders
**FRONT DESK RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Greeting and welcoming visitors and guests in a professional and friendly manner
- Managing POS systems, processing payments, and receipts
- Staying current with all Centre activities including, but not limited to, educational & public programs, exhibits, birthday parties, special events, group visits & corporate packages including details such as dates, times, costs, registration processes and requirements
- Selling and processing Discovery Centre memberships including maintaining membership files and database
- Processing payments and completing daily cash opening & shut-down procedures
- Maintaining the front desk and reception area in an organized and clutter free manner
- Performing bank deposits in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**:
- Post-secondary education
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a retail, customer service or sales role
- Demonstrated organizational skills and financial management skills
- Ability to maintain composure and positive customer service while under pressure
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask
- Works well in a dynamic team environment
- Administrative skills
- Passion for science
- Computer skills - Microsoft Office, Web literate, POS systems
- Bilingual is an asset (French/English)
**SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT**:
This position requires a flexible work schedule which will include weekend and holiday hours. Working conditions include daily contact with people of all ages, small and large groups, long periods of standing, and light physical activity.
