As part of the Student Experience portfolio, Accessible Education provides resources and supports to registered students with disabilities at Western. Team members work one-to-one with students to understand needs and recommend academic accommodations that help ensure equity, inclusion, and full participation in the educational environment.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Accessible Education, the Accessible Education Facilitator is responsible for the clinical assessment, development and implementation of individualized academic accommodation plans for students with disabilities, conditions and/or trauma. The Accessible Education Facilitator is a liaison with faculty, staff and students supporting the implementation of accommodation plans, and collaborates with on and off campus supports for seamless response to student support needs. The role will review and evaluate the effectiveness of academic accommodations, identify new supports or mechanisms that support a student driven model, and work in collaboration to facilitate any needed changes, ensuring accommodations uphold academic integrity.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science (e.g. OT, PT, SLP), Health Sciences, Adult Education, Special Education, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or other related discipline
- Individual must be eligible for registration or registered with a professional college in Ontario as defined by the Registered Health Professionals Act (1991) or the Social Work and Social Service Work Act (1998).

**Experience**:

- 3 years demonstrated experience in student-focused environment (secondary or post-secondary)
- Demonstrated experience with planning and providing academic accommodations, academic support, or services to persons with disabilities
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in supporting persons in crisis and securing appropriate support
- Experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Knowledge of needs assessment techniques, approaches and intervention strategies
- Knowledge of assistive technology and services
- In-depth knowledge of best practices for handling sensitive and confidential information
- Knowledge of crisis management resolution approaches
- Demonstrated understanding of disability issues, relevant legislation and community resources
- Ability to source new information resources for clients to seek resolution to challenges through research
- Ability to think innovatively and propose/initiate new services or delivery models that meet the needs of a diverse range of clients
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Communication skills to listen to the complete message, solicit more information as required, and give feedback on the message received
- Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
- Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
- Innovative and flexible critical thinking skills to adjust to and implement new processes or technology to the University’s advantage
- Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Problem solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
