We are now seeking an Estimator/Jr. Estimator for our Burnaby office to add to our growing estimating department. The role includes responding to internal and external requests for proposals, construction and consulting budgets and cost estimates; reviewing estimates, budgets and proposals prepared by AC’s Project and Construction Managers; and ensuring all proposals comply with our risk management policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Prepare accurate and complete detailed quantity take-offs based on drawings and specifications including the scope of work.
- Preparing cost estimates for tenders by way of identifying and quantifying all necessary materials, equipment, and labour for the assigned project.
- Monitor all changes/addendums in scope during the estimate period.
- Source vendors and/or subcontractors and determine costs.
- Maintain/Update project bid-list.
- Search & analyze options for the most effective means & methods of construction.
- Attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Work with Chief Estimator, Project Managers and Superintendents on awarded contracts - estimating extra work items, change orders & credits.
- Assist with ongoing projects.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements/Qualifications:

- 2+ years of estimating experience in the Lower Mainland construction market, ideally experienced in the civil construction industry.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and navigate through Civil, Landscape, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel & Adobe.
- Experience using digital takeoff software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Be proactive and have a positive attitude.
- Advanced knowledge of local construction materials and techniques (MMCD).
- Demonstrated history of successful bid results in a deadline driven fast-paced environment.
- Above average English communication skills both written and verbal.
- Confidence and ability to communicate with all levels of management - both internal and external.
- Above average mathematical skills are necessary for this position.
- Valid drivers license and personal vehicle.
- Steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, high vis safety vest.

While a certificate, diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Civil Construction, or Construction Management is preferred, it is not a necessary qualification.

Working Conditions:
This is a permanent full-time salaried position in an extremely high paced environment that may require overtime and weekend work. Typical work week is Monday - Friday from 8am - 4pm stationed at our Head office.

Reporting Structure: Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator.
