**File #**:2025-E-020 **Position**: 1 **Classification**: Full-Time, Non-Union **Weekly Hours**:35 hours per week **Number of Vacancies**: 1 **Department**: Fire **Wage Information**:$64,319 - 75,239 / annually based on relevant qualifications and experience **Closing Date**:June 20, 2025 Reporting to the Fire Prevention Officer or designate, the Fire Inspection and Compliance Officer is responsible for conducting fire code inspections, enforcing, and ensuring compliance with legislation, codes, standards, and municipal By-laws, providing public education, conducting, or assisting with origin and cause fire investigations and initiating or assisting in the prosecution process. The Fire Inspection and Compliance Officer plays a key role in preventing fire related incidents while enhancing public safety and quality of life within the community. **Position Responsibilities**: - Conduct comprehensive fire prevention inspections on a request, complaint or regularly scheduled basis as outlined in the Establishing and Regulating By-law of all assigned building classifications and occupancy types and enforce fire prevention codes and standards. Issue orders, testify, and give evidence in court. - Record all inspection findings and make recommendations to improve occupant and building safety. - Liaise regularly with colleagues in the Building Services and By-law Enforcement Branches regarding related legislation and By-laws. - Prepare and implement public fire safety and emergency preparedness education programs for the general public, community groups, schools and other institutions using a variety of mediums, and maintain inventory of materials and library of online content. - Assist in providing training in Fire Prevention and Public Education to Volunteer Firefighters. **Qualifications and Experience**: - Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent. Post-secondary education from an accredited university or college in Firefighting, Fire Sciences Technology, or equivalent, an asset. - Minimum two (2) years of progressive, related experience in fire service suppression. Experience in fire prevention and public education activities is considered an asset. - Certification from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in 1001 Fire Fighter Level II, required. - Standard First Aid and CPR-BLS, an asset. - Certification in NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level I; NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator; NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator Level I; or relevant demonstrated experience considered an asset. - Good working knowledge of the NFPA Standards, Ontario Fire Code, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Ontario Building Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015. - Possess a high degree of integrity due to exposure to confidential and/or sensitive information. - Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times. - Excellent written and verbal communication, administrative, customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, research, and time management skills. - Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check. - Possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job. - A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing with a current acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
