Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for general maintenance and repairs of SMUS’s buildings. This is part-time and seasonal work ideal for individuals with flexible schedules who are able to work with short notice and looking to supplement their income.

Hours of work vary and include weekends and evenings. This is physical work and can include working outdoors during inclement weather.

**Key Responsibilities and Expectations**:

- Basic demolition work, lifting and moving furniture and boxes.
- Building security, locking buildings and windows after hours.
- Cleans work areas, equipment and tools.
- Operates and maintains power and hand tools.
- Basic plumbing, drywall repair, painting and general building maintenance
- Ensures safety of work crews, and safety standards are adhered to.
- Assists in set ups, take downs of tables, chairs, supplies and equipment for school events.
- Cleaning windows and power washing area.
- Other duties as required.
- Minimum high school diploma required.
- Minimum five years' experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems preferred.
- Knowledge of building maintenance and general building trades an asset.
- Ability to problem solve and find solutions to last minute request or issues.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and responsibility while working with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in communicating effectively with staff and the general public.
- Ability to work in and promote a team approach and environment.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet established timelines.
- Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties, lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs.
- Valid B.C. Drivers License (Class 5).
- Experience working in a school environment and First Aid/CPR certificate would be assets.
- Comfortable working with MS Outlook, basic file storage and computer skills.

**Pay Range**:
Hourly pay range: $21.23 - $24.97

**Criminal Record Check**:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
