**Job Title: Director, Safety and Security**
**Job Summary / Purpose**:To maintain a safe and tranquil environment for guests and staff, the prevention of internal loss and provide a liaison between the Inn and local law enforcement agencies.
- **Job Duties & Responsibilities**:_
Manage the contract security guards; Nottawasaga Inn, Briar Hill construction site and the mobile patrol
Provide direction, establish policy, ensure compliance, liaise with Manager of security company, collect and review duty reports
Review monthly invoices for security hours. Ensure hours claimed are correct, sign same and forward to Ms. Della Reed
Patrols/observations at the Inn, Briar Hill and Green Briar
Ensure compliance with Inn policy and regulations by staff and guests. Pro-active to prevent internal loss by presence and observing staff
Ensure compliance with various Provincial Statutes and the Criminal Code of Canada by staff and guests
Eviction of unwanted persons, (with the Police if necessary) and service of notice under the Trespass to Property Act
Physical arrest of individuals, if necessary, found committing an indictable offence under the Criminal Code of Canada or the prevention of loss or damage to Company property. *extreme circumstances
Monthly check of emergency lighting and “exit” signs
Respond to any unsafe conditions
Observe for suspicious persons or incidents on the property
- **Investigations**_
Initiate an investigation of any complaint: criminal or Inn policy and regulations, reported by guests, staff and/or discovered. Conduct appropriate interviews, seize any relevant property (legally) maintain a record/journal of activities and share same with Management and Police
- **Community Liaison; Briar Hill and Green Briar**_
Respond to enquiries from the residents of Green Briar and Briar Hill relevant to personal safety and security, the mobile patrol, property checks and use of Inn facilities i.e. the parking lot. Provide direction where appropriate or referrals to relevant agencies or persons.
Respond to complaints or reports of suspicious persons or activities in Green Briar and Briar Hill by presence and ensuring the Police are notified
- **Found Property**_
Ensure compliance with found property policy relevant to valuable articles including the storage in the front desk vault and completion of property records.
Conduct appropriate enquiries to determine the owner of valuable found property; ie; cameras, jewellery, money, wallets/purses and arrange for return.
Dispose of valuable found property where the owner is not identified as per Inn policy with respect to the finder or donations to the Nottawasaga Foundation.
- **Assistance to Staff/Guests**_
Provide assistance to staff or guests beyond the realm of “safety and security” for the betterment of customer relations and or service to our cliental.
- **Consultative Services**_
Respond to enquiries of Management and staff relevant to Criminal Offences, Provincial Statutes, Emergency Management, personal safety and security and local trends of criminal activity.
- **Generator Check**_
On the 1st, and 15th, of each month, attend each of the 5 generator locations and record the hours and remaining fuel levels. Report same to proper department including the date and hours of the last annual maintenance check with copy to Owner and Head of Construction.
- **Health and Safety Inspection Reports**_
On the 1st, of each month, attend at each Department, ensure the monthly Health and Safety Report has been completed and initial same. When completed, report same to HR and Owner.
- **Training**_
Attend all compulsory training sessions i.e. First Aid, CPR and complete any other legislated training sessions or in-service training as need is identified.
Assist the Human Resources Department with orientation training providing lectures and answering questions relevant to the fire alarm system and use of fire extinguishers.
- **Fire Equipment**_
Provide the contract security staff with monthly inventory reports for their completion. Review same, address any concerns therein and retain in a 3 ring binder.
- **Fire Inspections**_
Every 3 months, examine the interior of the building for any variances with the Ontario Fire Code. Initiate corrective action where necessary and report to Peter Biffis.
Upon notice of a fire inspection by the local Fire Department, examine the interior of the building for any concerns and arrange for correction a day or so prior to the actual inspection. Be available to accompany the Fire Inspectors as they tour the building.
- **Security Trucks**_
Collect the daily vehicle reports for the 2 security trucks; review the contents i.e. kilometers, any mechanical concerns and equipment inventory. Forward said reports to the Stores Department.
- **Equipment**_
Maintain possession of 1 grand master key, a radio and charger, and a pager. (radio and charger are the property of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires)
