**Responsibilities**:
The Technical/Research Support 1 will be responsible for carrying out research functions in collaboration with principal investigators, staff, and students. The incumbent will maintain equipment, order supplies, set up and conduct tests and experiments in adherence with prescribed procedures. The incumbent will maintain records, and analyze, summarize and compile data and results for dissemination. The Technical/Research Support will support a collaborative academic-industry health technology project focused on business development activities critical to commercialization readiness. Reporting jointly to Dr. Matthew Cecchini (Western University) and Dr. Saumik Biswas (industry partner), the incumbent will work closely with academic and industry teams to support fundraising strategy development, go-to-market planning, investor research, and pricing and reimbursement research, the responsibilities are:
- Seed Round Risk Mitigation Strategy
- Assist in developing a proactive Seed Round Risk Mitigation Plan to support future fundraising activities.
- Identify and document critical milestones, fallback strategies, and alternative validation pathways.
- Conduct competitive research to benchmark risk mitigation approaches of comparable companies.
- Support validation of strategy through advisor and investor feedback.
- Go-to-Market Planning (Canadian Market Focus)
- Support the development of a go-to-market plan targeting the Canadian healthcare sector.
- Conduct research on market entry strategies, healthcare system dynamics, early adopter profiles, and partnership opportunities.
- Compile research findings into organized reports and strategy documents.
- Investor Research & Support
- Research potential investors, funding sources, and strategic partners aligned with healthcare innovation.
- Support the preparation of investor-facing materials such as pitch decks and progress updates.
- Assist with managing CRM systems and maintaining accurate investor communication tracking.
- Pricing and Reimbursement Research
- Assist in research related to pricing strategies and reimbursement pathways for innovative medical devices.
- Support collection and organization of market intelligence regarding pricing structures and health economic trends.
- Summarize findings to support commercialization planning efforts.
- Cross-Functional Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with academic, clinical, engineering, and regulatory teams to ensure project alignment.
- Prepare summary reports and presentations outlining project progress for leadership teams.
- Engage professionally with external advisors, mentors, and partners as needed.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree in business, life sciences, healthcare management, engineering, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
**Experience**:
- 1-3 years of experience in business development, strategic planning, market research, or startup fundraising support, preferably in healthcare or healthtech sectors.
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Strong analytical and research skills for market, investor, and pricing/reimbursement research.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and time management.
- Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Knowledge of startup funding processes, medtech commercialization, and healthcare systems (preferred).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
- Familiarity with experimental design and analysis
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner
- Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
