**Location**:Robert Lee YMCA (955 Burrard St., Vancouver, BC V6Z 1Y2)

**Term**:Temporary, Part-Time

**Hours**: 5:30pm-9:30pm (4 hour shifts, 4 x week)

**Shift**: Monday - Thursday

Shift will include administrative duties such as lesson planning and program reports

There will be a required 3-hour training session in late August or early September 2025

**Start Date**: September 22nd, 2025

**End Date**: November 7th, 2025

**Salary**:$25.00-34.50 per hour **(Based on Current Personal Trainer Wage Grid)**

**Reports To**: Supervisor, Health and Fitness

**Nature & Scope**

Reporting to the Fitness Supervisor, the Personal Trainer will provide instruction and information in small group personal training strength and fitness classes designed for women experiencing the menopause transition. **This is a short-term pilot project over a 6-week period from Sept 22nd - Nov 7th, 2025.**Trainers will work collaboratively with all YMCA staff and volunteers to provide exceptional service to members and guests of the YMCA. They will provide program participants with a comfortable and productive fitness environment through quality training and education, and they will provide feedback to YMCA BC to help learn from this pilot for an effective roll-out in 2026.

The trainer will work with program staff and Fitness Supervisor to support the successful delivery of this pilot program including the following outcomes:

- Participants feel better informed about perimenopause and menopause.
- Participants feel more connected to other women in the menopause transition.
- Participants feel more connected to, and supported by, YMCA BC.
- Participants understand benefits of strength training and how to lift safely (proper alignment, gradual progression) and effectively (progressive overload, what it feels like to lift close to failure).
- Participants feel stronger and more confident in the weight room.
- Participants demonstrate measurable increases in physical fitness over 6 weeks.
- Participants understand benefits of aerobic exercise, develop and follow a plan over the 6 weeks.
- Participants have a plan for next steps following this 6-week program.

**Major Responsibilities**-**_in this position, you will_**:

- Assist participants reach their goals as part of the Moving Through Menopause program, in a positive and professional manner.
- Perform all administration duties for the pilot program including training, planning, program delivery, evaluation, and records.
- Build meaningful relationships through regular interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues.
- Cultivate personal training relationships by presenting the value of personal training to participants as an option to continue their fitness journey beyond the pilot program.
- Clean all prescribed areas based on infection prevention protocols including fitness and high touch areas.
- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff - this includes the free weight, stretching, circuit and cardio areas.
- First 6 workouts have been developed, and there will be flexibility for the trainers to bring their own expertise to the workouts.
- Trainer will develop the workouts for the second half of program (6 workouts) using the weight room floor for part of the workouts, based on how the first sessions have been going, and reflective of the participants abilities/needs.
- Workouts will consist of general information-sharing about menopause, warm up, strength training, cardio (if time), and cool down.
- Trainer will adapt workouts for different levels of experience/training.

**Qualification**-**_you bring_**:

- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Preference given to a current YMCA BC personal trainer
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
- YMCA or BCRPA Personal Training Certification or equivalent
- Knowledge and/or personal experience in the menopause transition are assets
- Older adult certifications are an asset
- Group fitness certificate is an asset
- Guidance and/or Nutrition an asset
