Water/Wastewater Maintenance Person, Class II
Public Works and Environmental Services
Reporting to the Manager of Water/Wastewater Services and/or the Overall Responsible
Operator (ORO), the Water and Wastewater Maintenance Person is responsible for the
operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and pumping
stations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will:
- Inspect and maintain all mechanical, electrical and chemical systems associated with
the municipal water and wastewater facilities.
- Monitor plant and remote station equipment to ensure operations are not interrupted.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all plant equipment.
- Maintain records of inspections and maintenance performed.
- Work in cooperation with licenced Operators and ORO’s in prioritizing work to prevent
equipment failure or shutdowns.
- Maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, boilers, electric control and related systems.
- Maintain process control in cooperation with WTP/WWTP Operators.
- Ensure the terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is observed on the work
site at all times.
- Use process interpretation and trouble shooting skills to repair and maintain equipment
as required.
- Be available for on-call service as directed by the Manager.
- Be available for after-hour and weekend work as required.
- Perform plant operational duties as assigned by Manager and/or ORO.
Education/Specialized Training/Skills:
The position will require:
- A minimum of a two (2) year Community College Diploma and/or provincial trades
certification as an Electrician, Millwright or Mechanic.
- Valid Certification in Class II Water and Wastewater treatment.
- Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and safe driving record.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electric control systems and heating
systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Computer skills and accurate record keeping skills.
Work Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of municipal water and wastewater
treatment systems is required as well as experience in pneumatic, hydraulic and electric
control systems, HVAC, boilers and related equipment. Knowledge of the purpose of, and
experience in the repair of various valve types and controllers is required.
