- A day in the role of a Resident Care Aide at Arbour Creek Care Centre:
- Under the direction of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), the Resident Service Aide assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents and assists other care staff in performing in the best interest of the residents and their families, and in accordance with the vision, mission and values statements of the designated long term care home.
- The Resident Service Aide is responsible for providing non-personal care related support to residents. Please see below for a full list of role responsibilities. For clarity, the Resident Service Aide does not provide personal care at any time, this includes bathing, toileting and personal grooming.Assists the care team in providing non-personal care related activities, including:- Act as a spotter for residents requiring a 2 person lift or transfer
- Provide assistance to residents during meal time (feeding/clearing of tables)
- Portering residents to activities or meals
- Making residents’ beds, changing linens
- Tidying resident closets and drawers as requested
- Provide one-on-one or small group visiting programs to offer companionship to a resident, sit with and do an activity of resident choice
- Assisting with distribution of snacks
- Assist PSWs with rounds, provide assistance as directed
- Label personal items in resident rooms
- Assist in cleaning and disinfection of resident side tables, wheelchairs and walkers and other areas as assigned
- Assist with cleaning of high touch areas on the unit
- Assist with tray service if the Home is on outbreak
- Assist with hamper service (removing and replacing full laundry hampers)
- Assist with 1:1 observation of residents with responsive behaviours
- Other duties as assigned.

Must be sensitive and empathetic to the needs of the residents.-
- Has attention to detail which will ensure all duties are conducted in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Home, and all applicable Government regulations, laws, and policies.-
- Understands and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.-
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, other staff members and residents.-
- Promptly reports all actual or potential hazardous situations or injuries to the immediate supervisor.-
- Respects the need to maintain the absolute confidentiality of residents’ personal information.-
- Strong interpersonal skills (experience in volunteering and customer service is an asset).-
- Possesses an interest and ability to work with older adults; and some awareness of the impacts of dementia.-
- Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.- How to apply?
