**What do we need from you?**
As a Child Care Kitchen Helper, you will be responsible for supporting the Child Care Chef with the daily operations of the kitchen. To clean, stock, maintain the kitchen as well as help with the preparation of meal ingredients
**What will you do?**
- Ensuring a clean, sanitized environment, including washing, and drying all dishes, utensils, cooking equipment and cutting boards; mopping and sweeping the kitchen areas as required
- Maintain inventory and record of food, supplies and equipment
- Label and date open packages in fridge & freezer practicing FIFO
- Prepare, season, and cook food as directed, meeting allergy and dietary requirements where required
- Being mindful of proper portion size served to children
- Being hands on in the prevention of choking hazards
- Following the Canada Food Guide to ensure nutritional needs are met
- Maintaining kitchen cleaning log
- Disinfecting practices & products-know correct ppm
- Know and practice proper hand washing procedures
- Garbage handling
**You will possess the following**:
- Able to work independently in a kitchen setting
- Strong advocate of nutrition
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of proper food handling procedures
- Ability to prepare and cook large volumes for up to 150 children daily
- Ability to handle food allergies and food substitution
- Ability to wash, peel, cut, and slice of ingredients
- Ability to sweep and mop areas
- Team player, organized, flexible
**Required qualifications to work at Kepler Academy**:
- Minimum of 1-year commercial cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen environment
- Food Safety Certificate
- Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check issued within the past 6 months
- Standard First Aid certificate is considered as an asset
