Due to the significant growth of our business, we are looking to add a Health & Safety Coordinator to our team. Reporting the Human Resources/Health & Safety Manager this position will directly support the health & safety initiatives of the company Canada-wide.
**Responsibilities**:
- Assist with the Health & Safety efforts with the support of the human resources manager
- Initiate and maintain programs, which will ensure compliance with objectives and policy, as well as government rules and regulations pertaining to Occupational Health, Safety (CSA, MOL)
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of all provincial and federal Health, Safety laws and regulations pertaining to the plant.
- Coordinate and participate in internal and external health, safety & environmental audits, and inspections
- Maintain accurate records with regards to safety incidents, injuries, and corporate reporting and ensure activities are handled in a timely manner.
- Attend with Ministry of Labour on site audits; follow up to completion on any issued Orders
- Chair/support Joint Health and Safety Team to develop and maintain internal audit system including corrective actions and tracking system.
- Develop, revise and update all Health, Safety policies and procedures. Control documents for EMS.
- Ensure compliance with Early Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) policy.
- Manage/Support (WSIB) Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims/records.
- Facilitate/ Support accident /incident investigation and initiate proper corrective actions.
- Maintain favourable working relationships i.e., liaise with regulatory agencies including City, MOL, MOE, Fire Department, etc.
- Help coordinate environmental affairs: Environmental Approvals, Monitoring and Reporting, Hazardous Materials Management (waste material disposal), and Waste Management.
- Support facility Ergonomic Program development efforts.
- Work with Project management team on workplace design, equipment usage, and work process to ensure safe work.
- Manage the Contractor Safety Program.
- Investigate and develop corrective actions for cases of accidents and non-conformances (e.g., environmental spills, dangerous circumstances, etc.)
- Work with construction contractors to increase safety awareness and improve safety practices by monitoring and inspecting sites to ensure HSE compliance; assisting in and ensuring proper investigation and reporting of incidents and accidents; and conducting in-house training sessions on site (e.g., orientations, hazard assessments, shop talks, etc.)
- Maintain the health, safety & environmental bulletin boards
- Maintain contractor evaluation sites as required i.e. ISN, Contractor Compliance, Avetta
- Project Insurance, as required for tenders, bids etc.
**Qualifications**:
- Certificate, Diploma, Degree in Health and Safety or related field of study.
- 1+ of experience with an emphasis on health, and safety in a construction environment preferred
- Solid working knowledge of health, safety & environmental regulations and related principles and practices
- Demonstrated experience in upgrading health and safety programs and process improvement.
- Solid working knowledge of safety programs within the construction industry
- Proactive and oriented to make improvements in systems and procedures.
- Strong organizational skills including, managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
- Strong computer skills - word processing, spreadsheet and presentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead / interact with employee teams.
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making and establishing priorities.
- Effective change management and influencing skills
- Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information
- Proficient in Microsoft office (Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to establish priorities and meet firm deadlines
- Must have access to reliable source of transportation
- Ability to travel to job sites locations as necessary.
