Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada’s largest research and technology organization.
The VP, Emerging Technologies is responsible to lead and manage the NRC Emerging Technologies Division with an overall budget of approximately $138 million ($80 million in salary, $20 million in operations and the remaining in grants and contributions and capital expenditures) and with approximately 611 employees. Additionally, the division was provided with 103M$ for major facility renewals. The research centers that make up the division are the following:
- Metrology: Conducts measurement research and provides metrological services to effectively and efficiently serve the marketplace, in Canada and internationally.
- Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics: Canada's foremost authority on astronomy and astrophysics, operating and maintaining Canada's largest and most powerful observatories, and representing the country in some of the world's leading astronomy initiatives.
In addition, a new third Research Centre is currently being formed through bringing together three smaller existing Research Centres reporting to this Vice President position, including:
- Security and Disruptive Technologies: Focus in quantum photonics, materials technologies, and attosecond science. Collaborates to build the emerging technology platforms that will sustain Canada's industrial competitiveness.
- Advanced Electronics and Photonics: Keeping Canadians and the world connected by pushing the boundaries in photonics and electronics research and the development of new communication and sensor technologies.

R&D projects under QRDI will combine government expertise and infrastructure and involve collaboration with academic and industrial partners to work on advancing quantum technologies to support the strategy.
The VP, Emerging Technologies also manages the contribution agreement of the Government of Canada with TRIUMF, Canada's national facility in subatomic physics. As such, the NRC organizes the Advisory Committee on TRIUMF and the Agency Committee on TRIUMF.
