**Main Purpose and Function**
Working directly with the City’s FIFA World Cup 26 Vancouver Secretariat team, the Communications Coordinator II - FIFA World Cup 26 Vancouver is an experienced communications generalist leading strategic communications as assigned by the Associate Director, Media & Issues and Communications Lead for the Secretariat.

In 2026, the spotlight will be turned towards this amazing city, giving us the opportunity to share its unique diversity and show our inclusive Team Vancouver spirit as we host the world’s largest sporting event. This exciting opportunity is responsible for supporting the City of Vancouver on successfully delivering the FIFA World Cup 26 through strategic communications planning and execution, media relations and issues management, event support and ongoing stakeholder relations.
The position has a strong strategic and stakeholder relations focus including: developing integrated communications strategies that support successful business outcomes across agencies; working with key partners to inform the public about initiatives, their expected impacts and the opportunities for public involvement; liaising with the media on issues and questions related to initiatives, media training and arranging interviews with staff and elected leaders as appropriate; proactively identifying and managing corporate and reputational issues as they arise; developing a wide range of written materials including news releases, backgrounders, speeches, presentations, social media content and advertisements; liaising with other government agencies and partners as required; and representing the City to our Host City counterparts, FIFA and other partner organizations.
**Specific Duties / Responsibilities**:
Develops and implements large-scale, multi-channel communications plans to support the successful delivery of the FIFA World Cup 26 Vancouver, including:
- Content creation for web, social media, media and other content collateral as required, as well as analyzing success metrics.
- Delivering media events and supporting event planning for media activations within Vancouver to support major tournament announcements in the lead up to 2026, including coordinating and managing vendors and appropriate assets and collateral.
- Ongoing media relations for the Secretariat including triaging media requests, working with partners on proactive and reactive media materials and news releases, and training and preparing City spokespeople.
- Project management of key communications deliverables within Secretariat work streams to support in delivering host city obligations for the tournament.
- Managing stakeholder relationships with FIFA, internal and external agencies, partners and orders of government. Offering leadership and support to cross-functional teams, including participating in working groups to provide strategic direction and advocate for host city needs, managing issues as they arise and seek joint solutions to move deliverables forward.
- Supporting the maintenance of the social media strategy including creating engaging content for organic and paid social media campaigns and partner collaborations.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
**Minimum Position Requirements**
Education and Experience:
Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline and preferably at least five years’ experience in a communications and/or community relations position, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Communications generalist with strong experience developing strategic communications across multiple channels for varying audiences.
- Experience in proactively managing issues related to major public-facing and highy-visible initiatives.
- Experience working with and communicating to diverse stakeholder groups with conflicting needs.
- Understanding of the local media landscape and considerable experience serving as a media point-person on complex issues and initiatives.
