The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
**Position title**: Poll Clerk
**Reports to**: Elections Administrator
**Supervises**: None
**Employee status**: Hourly, Part-time
**Length of term**: Training in late February - early March, March 1 - 7
**Hours per week**: 15 - 25 hours during Election from March 1 - 7
**Compensation**: $17.50 per hour
Position Purpose
AMS Elections is seeking motivated, enthusiastic students to maintain voting stations on campus throughout the election period, providing visibility and accessibility to students with the goal of encouraging students to vote. Poll Clerks will be responsible for managing voting stations at various sites around UBC, enforcing campaign regulations surrounding voting stations, and reporting any irregularities. Poll clerks are required to be impartial.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manage set-up, take-down and functioning of voting stations
- Provide impartial information to students
- Recognize and report voting irregularities
- Enforce campaign regulations at all times
- Safeguard electoral equipment
- Engage and draw potential voters
- Communicate technical difficulties
- Works with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
- Other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges
- Cannot be a member of the AMS Council, an Associate Vice-President of the AMS, an AMS Service Coordinator, a member of an AMS Committee, or hold an executive position in any Constituency or Club of the AMS
- Cannot be holding any position to which they have been appointed by the AMS Council
- Cannot have held an AMS Executive office in the past year
- Punctual and strong communication skills
- Enthusiastic about attracting voters and increasing voter turnout
- Dedication to maintaining non-partisanship during campaign and voting period
- Prior electoral experience is not required, but should have significant interest in the elections process.
