We are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to growing their professional career at Vanpile while gaining valuable knowledge and experience through a variety of assignments.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assist in all aspects of the tendering process
- Reads and understands design drawings and specifications to become familiar with project requirements
- Prepares detailed firm, budget and unit price estimates for labour, materials, equipment, permits, etc
- Liaises with client representatives, government officials, design engineers, vendors and subcontractors
- Confers with design engineers for interpretation of items not clearly shown and/or specified
- Sends out Requests for Quotations and communicates with subcontractors and suppliers throughout tender period
- Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Create preliminary project schedules
- Liaise with field staff to determine equipment productivities and construction methodologies
- Utilizes HeavyBid estimating software to build estimates
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety & Environment and ensuring these are considered within each estimate
- Participates in estimate reviews with senior management
- Develops tender submissions and respond to post-tender inquires
- Participates in Project Handover meetings upon award of projects to advise field staff of assumptions on construction procedures and methods used in the preparation of estimates
- May assist in the training and development of junior estimators
- Other duties as assigned by the Lead Estimator
**Qualifications/Requirements**:
- University degree in Engineering, or diploma in Civil Technology
- Currently registered or eligible to register as an AScT or EIT/P.Eng. in the province of BC
- Minimum 5 years’ experience estimating heavy civil construction projects, marine construction is considered an asset
- Good working knowledge of estimating and construction methods
- Field experience as a Project Engineer/Project Manager is considered an asset
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of estimating, cost control, planning and project management techniques
- Use of computer software: AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Heavy Bid, MS Office (Word, Excel& Project)
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
