**Job Summary**
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to join our school. Summit School has students from ages 4 to 21 years who present with a range of difficulties including intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or behavioral and emotional disturbances. The scope of this role is direct involvement with students to encourage independent communication through verbal and non-verbal means. Focused work and play for individual and small-group intervention, as well as classroom support is required. We provide an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to support our students, teachers, and parents.
**Qualifications**:
- Certificate or degree in a field related to education or linguistics.
- Work or stage experience with pediatrics (experience with special needs population, i.e. autism, development al disability) would be considered an asset.
- Excellent communicate with a solid command of speaking English.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members..
- Effective work strategies, including flexibility, good organization skills, time management, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple work tasks..
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.**Responsibilities**:
- Carrying out individual or group activities under the direction of an SLP.
- Preparing materials and resources as needed for each student's program and class participation.
- Assisting in the implementation of the recommendations and/or programming of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Collaboration with teachers.
- Responsible to collect all relevant data.
- Actively participate in meetings with speech language pathologists and classroom teachers.
- Participate in the regular cleaning, maintenance, and organization of materials.
High level of empathy, care and sensitivity to the needs of the students. Experience and interest in working with students with developmental disabilities, a strong work ethic, showing good initiative, independence, and an ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential for the position.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months
Pay: $22.80 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
