Vancouver, Canada UBC Faculty of Forestry Full time

**Position Description**:
The incumbent will develop and maintain software tools and automated processes for the UBC Faculty of Forestry educational technology and infrastructure, delivering teaching technology programming support, as well as serving as an escalation point for more complex technical web requests and issues in the Faculty. Helps to arrange appropriate web programming solutions to meet the Faculty’s needs.

**Organizational Status**:
This position reports to the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing and works closely with the Faculty’s IT Director and the Teaching and Learning Team and Marketing Team; as well as staff and faculty in academic program units, in order to realize the technical requirements of strategic web-based initiatives in these areas.

**Work Performed**:

- Leads web design strategies and project planning overseeing the development and content maintenance of all external and internal websites at the Faculty
- Consults with key stakeholders and partners to determine creative web and digital design solutions
- Ensures web and digital design aligns with branding and design standards established by the Faculty’s Graphic Design, Publications and Illustrations Coordinator
- Creates wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to communicate interaction and web design ideas
- Heads up all testing and improvements to the design and functionality of Faculty websites
- Ensuring website function and stability across devices i.e. desktop, mobile, tablet
- Drives SEO and keyword best practices in content creation and content programming
- Finds solutions to increase free traffic to the site through the optimization of website pages
- Directs changes to website architecture, content, linking, and other factors to improve SEO positions for target keywords
- Creates compelling UX approaches, UI solutions, interaction behaviors, and design systems by establishing a vision through efficient design and user-flows
- Optimizes sites for maximum speed and scalability
- Manages and leads all aspects of the Faculty’s digital graphic design for clients within the Faculty
- Leads in the design of creative marketing campaign assets including but not limited to: digital ads, digital signage, banners, and social media posts
- Plans and creates design projects including the creation of original vector illustrations, manipulation of digital images and design/layouts.
- Manages relationships with external service providers, such as creative and digital agencies
- Presents and defend designs and key deliverables to peers and senior management
- Establishes, promotes, and educates colleagues on digital design guidelines, best practices, and standards to ensure a thorough understanding of brand consistency across all digital platforms and assets
- Provides education, training, consultation, and hands-on support to end-users of digital communications websites, templates, and services (CMS, brand assets, internal operations tools)
- Leads the development of manuals and reporting templates to keep team documentation current and accurate
- Makes recommendations on the purchase of tools to aid in the improvement of the design and/or performance of Faculty websites
- Integrates web apps and sites with UBC enterprise systems, including Identity Management, Student Information and Enterprise Data Integration;
- Plugin installation/development for WordPress, Drupal or other CMS management
- JavaScript and jQuery for web component development
- Develop e-Payment solutions using UBC e-Payment system or the new TouchNet online payment system management
- Custom workflow creation using Qualtrics
- Performs other related duties as required

**Consequence of Error/Judgement**:
Must exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with donors, staff, suppliers, students, alumni and faculty. May need to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines and make decisions on how best to manage the work given, based on the timeframe, the relative strategic importance of the projects and the impact of failing to meet deadlines. The quality of the digital assets developed and managed has a profound influence on the public’s opinion of the Faculty of Forestry. The production and distribution of inaccurate, inconsistent or ineffective information could have a significant detrimental effect on the Faculty’s ability to compete for research funding, reputation with alumni, to attract and steward donors, and the Faculty’s ability to attract the best graduate and undergraduate students possible.

**Supervision Received**:
Works under the broad direction of the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing, and daily direction of the Forestry IT Director. Receives mínimal direction on objectives and must be able to lead projects and develop procedures for completion to meet critical deadlines.

The position may be required to supervise Work Learn or Co-op students work
