**Working for the Faculty of Nursing**
**Position Summary**
This is a senior trust research position responsible for managing the Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) and Knowledge Utilization Studies Program (KUSP) data environment. The data unit currently manages data from numerous major surveys (over 25,000 cases) and patient/resident holdings currently exceed 2M records. It also oversees several major text-based collections. A major goal of this position is the ongoing development of the integrated longitudinal database. TREC and associated studies bring over forty investigator and decision-maker members from several Canadian and international universities and institutes. The incumbent will use the data life cycle in combination with a thorough understanding of the research cycle to establish where necessary and, on an ongoing basis, monitor optimal practices that support acquisition, linkage, analysis, visualization, and security of data.
**Duties**
Leadership & Human Resources:
- Management of workflow and processes within and in/out of the data unit
- Supervision and performance monitoring of data unit personnel
- Develops and maintains relationships and liaises with investigators, data custodians and privacy stewards, and where necessary ethics boards
- Manages the Health Research Data Repository
- Collaborates closely with essential IST, SDRE, and College of Health Sciences personnel
Data Stewardship
- Integrity of datasets, file structures, file linkages and all documentation
- Management and enhancement of the TREC data repository including tools and processes to facilitate data re-purposing
- Data management and data quality control (e.g., designing appropriate data file structures, ensuring data security, developing and implementing quality control policies and practices, managing multiple data collections, evaluating data management systems and processes)
- Leads data acquisition from and linkages to secondary sources
- Stewardship of sensitive health data
Meta data, documentation and policies:
- Meta data: (i) metadata creation and management (including metadata policies and practices and assisting investigators in working with and between the research and data life cycles), and (ii) specifically, meta-data requirements of our CFI funded data processing and feedback system
- Assists with developing and updating all Data Policies
- Ensures implementation and monitoring of data and data preservation policies and practices
Other:
- Basic multivariate statistical analysis
- Report writing
- Other related duties as assigned
This position also advises and mentors junior team members, students and others that may participate in formal internships as a result of partnerships through health regions and government relations. These responsibilities require the ability to communicate effectively among the multi-disciplinary team members and develop and foster relationships with others outside of the immediate department (e.g., in other provinces and countries) that may inform data repository development.
