Medical Device Reprocessing Technician, overall responsibilities are to **sterilize medical equipment and instruments and prepare the supplies for use in procedures and surgeries**.
- Initiating testing of Steam Autoclave Sterilizers, and maintaining documents as required and set out by MDRD (Medical Devices Reprocessing Department) Standard for Quality Assurance.
- Responsible for the appropriate transfer, receipt, documentation, storage, organization and processing of all surgical instrumentation, equipment, and other sterile supplies.
- Checks key inputs (e.g., detergent level, appropriate detergent/high level disinfectant type).
- Ensures guidelines and direction for staff processing dirty and clean supplies in the CSR (Central Supply Room) are accessible for reference.
- Ensures an appropriate decontamination, cleaning, preparation and assembly of instrumentation and supplies with strict adherence to appropriate departmental standards, policies and procedures to maintain safe patient care.
- Prepare and load carts for the Autoclaves.
- Prepare and package stainless steel sutures as per surgeon preference.
- Collect, package and/or wrap linen drapes, gowns and surgical instruments in bundles, and individual peel packs following Sterile Technique for use in surgical procedures.
- Pick additional items for surgical cases as per individual preference cards for surgeons.
- Ensures a qualitative output that meets the Hospital, provincial and federal healthcare standards and guidelines.
- Distributes supplies and equipment to the OR area.

**Required skills and qualifications**:

- Successful completion of high school diploma.
- Current **Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate** from an Accredited Community College, preferably with a practical placement component.
- Good knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
- 1-2 years of recent and relevant hands-on experience in a Sterile Processing environment preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and surgical set requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of OR instrumentation and medical/surgical supplies.
- In-depth knowledge of aseptic methods and practices.
- Good understanding of quality control/assurance and ability to consistently deliver a high-quality product.
- Must be able to work with organic and inorganic residues such as blood and other bodily fluids and secretions seen on medical devices.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and read using English to effectively perform essential requirements of this position.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
