Endoscopy Technician

This position contributes to the effective operation of the Endoscopy Unit. Provides for the decontamination and reprocessing of the endoscopes and accessories, trouble shooting of equipment, minor repairs of endoscopes and stocking and ordering of equipment and supplies used in the unit. The Endoscopy Technician will:
- Collect, decontaminate, test, inspect and disinfect all endocopes (manually and mechanically) and accessories used in the unit
- Use and maintenance (filter changes, OPA exchange, pressure gauge checks, set scope cycles and troubleshoot for problems) of scope cleaning machine
- Trouble shoot problems with endoscopes and unit equipment (clear minor plugs in nozzles, auxiliary ports and angulation checks and tighten light source adapters) and when required complete requisitions to send for repairs
- Conduct routine checks and maintenance on suction regulators, air and O2 meters, oxygen tanks and regulators, laryngoscope blades and handles, AV equipment, and endoscopy forceps
- Monitor and maintain filters in Air Clean 2000 system
- Change cleaning solution in ultrasonic cleaner regularly
- Clean and restock Emergency Cart used for procedures done in other units on off

- Packaging and transport of accessories to Central Sterilizing Department for sterilization daily
- Complete purchasing requisitions, track and receive all orders relating to supplies and repairs for the unit
- Practice safety at all times and wear personal protective equipment according to Infection Control standards
- Liase with Purchasing agent and company representatives to secure information on product pricing, repair quotations and new products
- Maintain and update inventory list of all endoscopes in the unit (serial numbers, repair and use logs)
- Participate in quality management initiatives and educational programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Job Requirements- Grade twelve or equivalent
- One year recent related experience
- Knowledgeable about endoscopes, scope cleaning machine, A.V equipment, ultrasonic cleaner, unit equipment (suctions, O2 tanks, respiratory equipment), Air Clean 2000 system
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to do minor repairs on endoscopes
- Successful completion of Central Service Techniques course preferred
- Ability to work in fast paced environment and able to complete tasks in timely fashion
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team member
- Accurate and detailed in work habits
- Physical ability to handle constant walking and standing
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
