Project Manager, Physician Workforce Strategy

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Physician Workforce Strategy (PWS), the Project Manager will provide direction and assistance through successful collaboration with external and internal stakeholders to operationalize a physician workforce strategy that helps support a flourishing physician workforce for Northern Ontario. This will involve working within NOSM University to align training and education opportunities with future workforce needs and working with communities and external partners to support planning, and retention of clinicians who are NOSM University’s teaching faculty.
The Project Manager will support the development and implementation of new initiatives that involve several NOSM University portfolios. These initiatives will enhance mentorship and support for learners and faculty, and support curriculum renewal including supporting clear pathways in education, particularly the rural generalist pathway which crosses portfolios. Additionally, the role will support external postgraduate elective planning and marketing, as well as other emerging opportunities to strategically bring more physicians to Northern Ontario.
**Responsibilities**:
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Leads the transition development, and implementation and supports evaluation of the Rural Generalist Pathway
- Oversees and conducts environmental scans, literature reviews and needs assessments, as required
- Develops and coordinates relevant MOUs, Affiliation Agreements, and Terms of Reference for committees as required
- Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of a collaborative communications plan related to the projects relevant to the Office of PWS
- Participates in strategic networking and analysis with institutions and policy makers
- Develops and manages the budget and funding for the projects as needed
- Drafts strategic documents, including environmental scans, options papers, executive briefing notes, to support dialogue and decision making related to the projects
- Works with the Office of Advancement to develop external funding strategies that supports the enhancement of the physician workforce strategy and office
- Provides thought-leadership in partnership with internal stakeholders such as Faculty Affairs, Communications, the Office of Program Evaluation, MERLIN, CEPD and both the UME and PGME&HS portfolios to proactively identify critical physician workforce requirements necessary to plan, recruit and retain physicians across Northern Ontario
- Works collaboratively to support a marketing strategy for NOSM University’s teaching sites in partnership with HFO and the provost, CRU, and other units within the school.
- Works to support marketing of electives to external learners in alignment with strategic workforce planning in collaboration with CRU, communications unit and others within the school
- Works with the Communications Unit to develop communication tools and messaging for sharing with external partners, and through NOSM University website
- Supports a social media strategy aligned with the Communications Unit and other external partners
- Builds strong relationships that enable successful collaboration with external partners such as the OMA, HFO, and other external partners regarding physician workforce planning
- Supports the marketing and evaluation of non-academic pathways to the physician workforce by fostering and nurturing relationships for future opportunities and working in collaboration with PG Marketing
- Identifies and works with emerging initiatives that are exploring opportunities for partnerships to optimize physician-based services in N. Ontario, and the ways in which physician services can be supported and connected through meaningful partnerships, including the planning and development of events and conferences.
- In collaboration with OH (Health Force) and OH North, supports the determination of needs at the community level through facilitated sessions that help communities to articulate their needs and workforce plan.
- Participates in regional meetings w/ recruiters to ensure awareness of NOSM U initiatives
- Works in collaboration with the CFSA to support alignment of data regarding outputs of the school with community needs
- Supports the day-to-day functions of the Associate Dean, Physician Workforce Strategy
- Acts as a member of the Management Group at NOSM University
- Performs all other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- An undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, Business or Education from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A Master’s degree in one of the above areas is considered an asset.
- Designation in Project Management or equivalent demonstrated experience
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Minimum of five (5) years managerial experience, preferably in a unionized environment
