**Job Summary**: The Bindery Operator will report to the Press & LG Bindery Manager. They will be responsible for assisting in the completion of all saddle operations for press and digital-press projects in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards. They will also perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on saddle stitching equipment to ensure optimum output while working closely with other production staff members to finish projects and achieve daily goals.

**Major ties and Responsibilities**:

- Perform all saddle stitching functions including set up of stitching heads, making adjustments to ensure correct positioning on the proof. Once satisfied with the setup and the proof, operate the power saddle stitcher to perform the job. Set cover feeder.
- Set up gauges and mechanisms to detect doubles.
- Monitor quality, output and productivity of each job
- Consult and obtain approval from Manager prior to running project as required.
- Understand customer packaging specifications and communicate them to the Bindery Helper who puts the finished material on the skids. Ensure skids are packed as per instructions.
- Run client copies; pull and save samples.
- Change knives on trimmers and perform minor stitcher head maintenance.
- Operate other finishing equipment as required based on experience and production needs.
- Inform supervisor or manager of any equipment or supply issues.
- Analyze and decide the best method of managing each fold job. Act as a resource to other departments and production staff
- Perform all folder functions including set up and operation of the folder to fold, slit and score printed sheets into signatures for binding.
- Feed product into the machine and perform visual inspection for defects. Run samples to ensure the product is straight and any image area is lined up properly

**Minimum Qualifications and Skills**:

- Experience working in Bindery and hand assembling paper products not mandatory, but considered an asset.
- Operating knowledge of bindery techniques and equipment preferred.
- Experience with machining set up, adjustment, procedures, capabilities and limitations of equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills such as decimals and metric units.
- Capable of reading and interpreting written work orders.
- Exceptional dexterity, hand-eye coordination, focus and attention to detail.
- Able to identify issues and ask appropriate questions to make sure the job is completed to the required specifications.
- Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of bindery functions as assigned.
- Effective team player and independent worker.
- Excellent focus and attention to detail.
