**Position Summary**
- Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Science & Management, the Studio Technician is responsible for technical support and ensuring all technical requirements related to supporting students, faculty, and the operation of Fine Arts Program areas are met. The Studio Technician is aware of the Mission and Values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in everything they do.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
**STUDENT**AND**FACULTY**CURRICULAR**SUPPORT**
- Provide original and follow-up technical instruction and demonstrations for processes and techniques related to Fine Arts Program areas.
- Assist students in developing technical skills and solving technical problems in consultation with instructional faculty.
- Provide technical input into curriculum and participate in department and curriculum meetings as required.
- Develop and maintain technical instructional notes, procedures, and safety documentation.
- Assist faculty with the planning, preparation, and setup of the annual graduation show and departmental exhibitions.
**STUDIO**OPERATIONS**AND**MAINTENANCE**
- Ensure safe, clean, and secure operation of all Fine Arts studios, in accordance with WHMIS, WCB regulations, and College OHS policies.
- Monitor and maintain all tools, equipment, and studio furniture, including routine repairs and arranging for external service when necessary.
- Coordinate hazardous material management including safe storage, disposal programs, and maintaining required MSDS documentation.
- Organize and prepare studios for classes and individual student and faculty use.
- Administer the booking system to provide equitable student access to studio resources.
- Maintain inventories and order studio materials and consumables to support instructional and operational requirements.
**ADMINISTRATION**AND**COMMUNICATION**
- Prepare and monitor studio budgets in consultation with the Department Chair, including researching and making recommendations for capital purchases.
- Coordinate with Facilities for installations, renovations, and equipment logistics.
- Liaise with the Lab Technician - Fine Arts & Digital Design and Development and Print Shop Technician on technical crossover issues.
- Liaise with the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety on student and equipment safety, space use, and emergency preparedness.
- Maintain a current technical resource library and remain up to date on emerging materials, technologies, and studio practices.
- Provides guidance and training of student workers and studio assistants.
**OTHER**DUTIES**
- Participate in departmental committees and meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Dean or Department Chair.
**Required Education & Experience**
- University or art school degree or diploma, and at least three years direct experience in a comparable technical position in a post-secondary institution, or equivalent level of education, training and work experience.
- Considerable practical experience with all equipment, materials and techniques related to Fine Arts including Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting, Drawing and Printmaking practices.
**Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities**
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and demonstrate fundamental processes in Fine Arts including Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking.
- Proven ability to supervise and train students and staff in the safe use of all studio equipment and materials.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS and occupational health and safety standards, with current OFA Level One certification.
- Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets, database use, and inventory/budgeting software.
- Effective time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 22 kg.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
