**Working for the Department of Trades Infrastructure & Maintenance (“TIM” within University Services, Operations & Finance)**

Trades Infrastructure & Maintenance (“TIM” within University Services, Operations & Finance) is responsible for the maintenance of building infrastructure assets (eg: base building system equipment) across the University's main and other campuses. The University's building portfolio consists of a diverse collection of commercial buildings (including: classrooms, lab research, athletic facilities, teaching labs, administrative and common spaces) that are supported by a wide range of mechanical and electrical base building systems of all ages.

The main campus is supported by a district energy distribution system. In addition to the technical challenges that are associated with a large campus, managing maintenance in the institutional environment is complex and it requires collaboration with numerous and varied stakeholders. Our purpose is to support the research and teaching mission and vision of the University through excellent maintenance planning, maintenance execution, and stewardship of resources.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, the General Foreman oversees daily operations and leads teams of any combination of the following: full-time and temporary ticketed trade journeypersons, non-ticketed trade apprentices, certified technicians, certified power engineers, certified building operators, and general labourers. They also oversee other non-architectural foremen (mechanical and electrical) from an overall multi-trade construction project execution and scheduling perspective.

**Duties**
- Construction site oversight assistance with TIM multi-trade projects and jobs
- Participating in weekly construction coordination meetings
- Orienting contractors to TIM construction sites
- Reviewing contractor field-level hazard assessments
- Assisting General Maintenance Lead Hands with purchasing equipment and materials
- Participating with annual performance appraisals for General Maintenance Lead Hands and General Maintenance Lead Hands and General Maintenance Workers under their supervision

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Grade 12 high school diploma
- Journeyperson Red Seal Certification in Carpentry with 10+ years of experience
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial and/or industrial foreman experience in related trade
- Computer proficiency
- Completion of the following Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) courses: Construction Safety Training System 2020, Leadership for Safety Excellence, Construction Safety Administration, and Contractor Management
- Excellent working knowledge of Canadian and Alberta construction codes and standards
- Robust working knowledge of base building systems: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and architectural components
- Strong working knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Other relevant ACSA courses
