**The Opportunity**:
The role provides the effective assessment, treatment and transportation of patients to/from medical and/or
other facilities throughout the District of Muskoka. The Paramedic is required to act in the capacity of either
driver of the ambulance or attendant to the patient.

**What you will do**:

- Patient care
- Transport and transfer of patient
- Equipment and station maintenance
- Documentation management
- Liaise with dispatch centres, base hospital staff, police, fire, and family members

**What you will need**:

- Completion of a two (2) year Community College program in Emergency Health Care/Para-medicine
- (EMCA)
- Certified as a Primary Care Paramedic in Ontario
- Meets all Ambulance Act and Ontario Regulation 257 requirements for employment
- Valid CPR, Restricted Radio Operator’s license and all qualification that meet legislated requirements
- Proven knowledge of basic life-support medical care methods, procedures, techniques, and specifications
- related to Ambulance service, Base Hospital, equipment supplies, use of meds, vehicles and base stations
- Working knowledge of the Ambulance Act and other related legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines

**SUMMARY**
Provides the effective assessment, treatment and transportation of patients to/ from medical and/ or other facilities
throughout the District of Muskoka. The Paramedic is required to act in the capacity of either driver of the
ambulance or attendant to the patient.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)**:

- Patient Care:

- Perform emergency medical care duties in accordance with Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards and Base
Hospital protocols, which may include:
- Completing patient assessments, including assessing the scene for hazards;
- Initiating treatment including administering medications and continued monitoring and reassessment;
- Conducting cardiac defibrillation, CPR, oxygen, manual ventilation, IV treatment, bandaging, etc.;
- Coordinating with other primary care or medical service providers on the best approach for patient care.
- Transport and transfer of patient:

- Safely transport patients and other passengers, in both emergency medical care and non-priority situations;
- Transfer patients to and from vehicles, treatment centres, examining tables, stretchers, beds, etc.
- Vehicle, Equipment & Station Maintenance and Driving:

- Inspect response vehicles for roadworthiness, inventory and serviceability and advise dispatch of availability;
- Clean and restock interior of response vehicles and equipment, including stretchers and linens, as required;
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of ambulance station(s);
- Report any deficiencies in station premises
