**Job summary**

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate programs that address the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs of children aged newborn to 6 years old ( pre-school children ), whose parents are undergoing detox and rehab treatment at our centre.

**Reports to**: General Manager

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Lead age-appropriate activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Share knowledge with children through age-appropriate fun and play
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Plan innovative and age-appropriate ways of keeping children actively engaged
- Ensure the social and emotional growth of the children
- Develop and implement healthy menus
- Collaborate with parents to reinforce positive parenting strategies
- Collaborate with medical professionals in a multi-disciplinary team
- Develop and deliver instructional material related to positive parenting
- Supervise the childminders in their daily activities
- Develop mentoring and improvement plans for childminders
- Communicate and collaborate with the detox and the rehab departments
- Participate in meetings and make presentations
- Perform administrative tasks

**Requirements and qualifications**
- Degree in Early Childhood Development
- Ability to exercise patience when dealing with children
- Respectful of cultural diversity
- Organized, resourceful and able to follow a schedule
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history, culture, practices, customs, and beliefs, including unresolved trauma, stressors, domestic violence, addiction and mental health
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently and multitask
- Client-oriented and friendly
- Time management skill
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs
- First Aid/CPR would be an asset
- Having a valid class 5 Manitoba Driver’s license would be an asset

- Fast-paced environment

- Combination of sitting, standing and walking
- Work environment may be noisy

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Flexible language requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

Licence/Certification:

- Class 5 Licence (required)
