Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Information Services team.
Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence the Business Intelligence (BI) Professional is accountable for the design, technical support and maintenance of BI solutions supporting all business processes within Capital Power. This includes ensuring the BI solutions are well implemented, maintained, and supported, and are achieving the required outcomes.
You will contribute to our team by
- Providing BI development and data engineering services for both operations and project initiatives.
- Understanding and following professional IT practices within the Systems Delivery Life Cycle. Such practices include programming to a commercial standard of quality and responsiveness, testing, documentation, and source code management.
- Supporting highly complex and diverse set of BI, analytical, and decision support solutions across the enterprise.
- Providing expert technical advice to business stakeholders, senior manager, and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position. Close alignment with our business is critical to the success of this role.
- Providing highly responsive and customer-focused BI and analytic solutions for business groups that are part of all enterprise business processes.
- Monitoring performance and ensuring high availability and performance levels are achieved.
- Leading and participating in the resolution of technical problems.
- With the highly diverse set of decision support tools, providing an overarching solution instead of one-off problem resolution.
- Collaborating with other people leaders within IS and business groups to increase collaboration and enhancing the offering provided by the BI and Analytics Team.
What you will bring to the role
**Education**:
- Diploma or Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems. Degree in Business with extensive related experience.
**Experience**:
- Understanding of advanced analytics & data engineering & data science techniques to solve business challenges.
- Expertise delivering advanced analytics solutions on Microsoft Azure Data Platform.
- 5+ years’ experience with design, development, maintenance and support of enterprise scale BI and analytics solutions.
- In-depth understanding of business intelligence and advanced analytics platform technologies and capabilities.
- In-depth understanding of all aspects of modern analytics delivery process
- Understanding of Power, Natural Gas and Emissions commodity markets throughout North America is an asset.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of BI and analytics technologies with the focus on the following:
- Modern data warehouse approaches (data lakes, cloud data warehouses, Snowflake).
- Analytics environments (Data Bricks, Apache Spark, Delta Lake).
- Data engineering, pipelines, transforms and in-memory modeling (MS SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services).
- Data Visualization (PowerBI, MS SSRS).
- A solid understanding of current analytic delivery methodologies (e.g. data automation, data engineering, analytic pipelines).
- Strong knowledge of the Systems Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) including custom-build and commercial off the shelf (COTS) implementation frameworks.
- Fluent in at least one programming language (but not limited to): C#, SQL, Python, Dax)
- Experience using various components within the MS Azure advanced analytics ecosystem.
- Expertise in current analytic technologies such as “big data” with data lakes, Data Bricks, in-memory processing, Power BI and other cloud based BI solutions.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
- Minimal travel required to meet business users at the plants, or to other Capital Power offices.
- Out of business hours and overtime may be required. As required, participation in the on-call rotation schedule.
