Maintenance Technician

**Summary**:
Note: Maintenance team members are fit-tested for respiratory gear immediately upon employment, in compliance with health and safety regulations. Ability to don appropriate PPE is a requirement for this position as it tends to any/all areas within our facilities on BFM’s properties.

While this position is based out of the company’s Winterburn manufacturing facility, the Maintenance Technician is required to possess reliable personal transportation not only to commute to this location, but also to travel to the company’s other manufacturing facilities and offices located in Thorsby, Breton and Edmonton, Alberta, as needed.

**Duties**:

- Service and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and programmable logic controls to ensure functionality
- Perform minor electrical maintenance including but not limited to repair or replacement of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.)
- Perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. repair or replacement of parts due to drain and/or faucet leaks, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar objects, trenching and laying new lines, etc.)
- Perform preventive maintenance, such as lubrication and parts replacement
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues to minimise downtime and extend equipment lifecycle
- Equipment/parts welding (fabrication, restoration and/or upgrades)
- Assist with various installation and repair activities
- Ensure production flow and product quality by adhering to standard work process instructions in the performance of maintenance duties
- Communicate maintenance procedures and/or concerns to management
- Monitor tool/equipment inventory, track and report trends in the type and frequency of equipment breakdowns and rate of replacement. Place orders for replenishment and/or refurbishment as needed
- Support the implementation of a digital maintenance program for workorders, critical spares, and preventative maintenance
- Work closely with the R&D team to successfully bring project-based work to completion
- Participate in annual shutdowns; help determine cleaning and maintenance activities; collaborate with the R&D team on special projects to be completed throughout shutdowns
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings and facilities; identify and resolve current or potential maintenance concerns
- Maintain a clean and well organised work area
- Maintain positive rapport with third-party contractors and service providers
- Work closely with the Safety team to ensure compliance with all regulatory and health and safety requirements
- Retain maintenance logs and report on daily activities
- Other related operational/administrative tasks as necessary

- Mechanically inclined; technical competence and confidence with the ability to remain composed under pressure
- Dynamic with a sense of urgency; ability to adapt to shifting priorities with ease and tend to unexpected and/or critical matters impacting systems/equipment functionality
- Organized; highly methodical with strong problem-solving skills; ability to detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions and rapidly develop solutions/fixes
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative; ability to work autonomously but also collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to assist with training and coaching of new Maintenance staff
- Well-honed interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent manual dexterity; strong hands, arms, and upper body
- Physically capable of sitting, standing, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling and working in tight/confined spaces for sustained durations. May occasionally need to work at heights.
- Ability to push/pull and/or lift up to 50lbs unassisted
- Ability to don appropriate/required PPE such as respiratory gear

**Computer Proficiency**:
**Experience**:

- 1-3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, or related relevant role, within industrial/manufacturing or similar industry
- Demonstrated experience assisting with maintenance operations for medium to large scale organizations
- Technical proficiency related to handling industrial/manufacturing facilities
