Parent Aide Mentor Trainer

**Position Summary**:
The Parent Aide Mentor Trainer provides second level support and guidance to community front-line Parent Aide’s in the promotion of healthy parenting practices. This role will provide training and mentorship aligned with community needs and priorities for various audiences. Research best practice resources and develop a program for each community in collaboration with other Team members.
**Responsibilities**:
- Demonstrates and lead behaviors and attitudes that represent the strategic priorities and vision of STC Well-Being;
- Communicate regularly with STC Clinical Support Manager and STC secondary level support team members, ensuring collaboration occurs with relevant positions involved in the project and community plans;
- Communicates regularly and works collaboratively with community Supervisors, Parent Aides and Parent Mentors.
- Provide mentorship to frontline staff in communities that prevents the loss of children from the family unit and promotes healthy and culturally based practices;
- Develops rapport with community staff and provides guidance and mentoring with access to information, tools, and resources that assist families;
- Develops strong interdisciplinary working groups to carry out the community strategies by training and developing community staff and members as required such as;
- providing coaching, mentoring and developing of existing professions with the project;
- communicating performance and client expectations and standards and ensuring applicable policies, procedures and best practices are adhered to;
- providing timely feedback, assessment of program performance;
- leading the development and implementation of processes and best practices within the scope of the project.
- Ensure the emotional, physical, cultural, intellectual and spiritual development of children and care-givers in delivery of programs and services;
- Participate as part of an interdisciplinary team regarding an established schedule of community visits and meets virtually and in-person regularly to communicate and build relationships with families and staff;
- May facilitate parent educational workshops that are culturally relevant, meaningful and objective-based;
- Promotes the safety and well-being of children while working with the Parent Aide’s who support families and children;
- Maintains strict confidentiality at all times;
- Participate in community-level case management and planning as requested;
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting line authority or designate on an as and when required basis.
**Education and Experience**:
- Post-secondary education in a related human services discipline is required.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience providing training and coaching to others on parenting practices and techniques.
- Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset.
**Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities**:
- Knowledge of child development, family dynamics and challenges, poverty, mental health, addictions and domestic violence issues.
- Knowledge of effective positive parenting strategies and positive behavioral reinforcement.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the emotional and behavioral challenges that children experience and effectively promotes coping strategies.
- Demonstrates skills in developing an educational training program with clear objectives and delivery.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with individuals, families and communities.
- Ability to conduct group work, community groups, and facilitation.
- Ability to deliver presentations and workshops which are culturally structured and meaningful.
- Knowledge and sensitivity regarding the geographical and cultural needs of the community, and ability to understand how community and culture impact the family.
- Knowledge of traditional Indigenous parenting practices.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and driven, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset.
**Working Environment**:
- Ability to travel approximately 3 business days per week to member communities.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as required, which may include some evening and weekends.
**Other Conditions**:
- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and meet STC’s insurance requirements.
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment
