The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) will support the delivery of speech services within CHEO’s School Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) Speech Program. This position will provide a range of client-focused interventions for children with speech difficulties and their families. Working in collaboration with Speech-Language Pathologists, the CDA will implement individual and group treatment plans, develop therapy materials, and independently lead sessions aligned with established goals. This role offers the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including directly in schools, contributing to the care of children and youth with speech needs across the region. As part of CHEO, a leading pediatric health and research centre, the CDA will be part of a collaborative and supportive team dedicated to improving access to high-quality care for children and families.

LOCATION: CORNWALL

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate in the planning and implementation of individual and group treatment programs or protocols developed with the Speech-Language Pathologists (S-LP)
- Conduct informal screening of articulation and basic language skills as necessary, and discuss with S-LP.
- Document student progress towards achieving treatment goals as stated in the treatment program and discusses this information with the S-LP.
- Attend school program team planning and goal review meetings with the S-LP when necessary to report on the student’s progress with school team and parents.
- Attend program based meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational polices and procedures related to privacy.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures related to safety, including reporting and follow-up for incidents/accidents and near misses, identification and management of risks and emergency procedures.
- Follow routine precautions for infection prevention and control including proper hand hygiene.
- Participates in education and improvement activities related to safety.
- Adapts speech materials in a creative manner to meet the needs and developmental levels of students from JK to High School.
- Independently develop treatment activities and make a plan based on goals set out by the S-LP.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year post graduate Community College Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma (Essential)
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience with school population (preferred)
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification (preferred)
- Knowledge of the Guidelines for Supportive Personnel as outlined by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) (Essential)
- Eligible for membership with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) (preferred)
- Strong skills related to word processing, and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word) (Essential)
- Excellent time management and organizational skills (Essential)
- Sensitivity to people of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds (Essential)
- Highly level of accuracy and attention to detail (Essential)
