**Position Title: Geologist**

**Department: Market Surveillance**

**Location: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary**

**Status: Fixed-term Full-time - 12 months (Hybrid)**

**Day in the life of**:
The CIRO Equity Market Surveillance team is recruiting a geologist, reporting to the Director, Equity Market Surveillance. This is a full-time geologist position based permanently in one of Canada’s major financial centers.

**Core Responsibilities**:

- Assess technical and scientific mining content that is pre-filed by TSXV and CSE issuers to ensure compliance with applicable disclosure rules and 43-101
- Identify errors and/or omissions in pre-filed technical content that is material in nature and impactful to investor decisions
- Communicate proactively with Exchange staff, issuers, other regulators and other Surveillance staff to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to addressing disclosure issues
- Escalate matters to CIRO management and work with Exchange staff and regulators as appropriate to address ongoing or significant breaches of timely disclosure requirements
- Educate marketplace participants, issuers and other CIRO staff on timely disclosure requirements of mining content through the preparation of educational materials and public speaking
- Collaborate with industry, marketplace and regulatory peers on a one-on-one basis and participate on Industry Committees
- Assist Surveillance Staff in decide when it is necessary to halt trading to ensure full & fair dissemination of news.
- Assist Surveillance Staff in reviewing listed issuer press releases to assess materiality, balance and appropriateness in light of relevant exchange rules and securities legislation

**Skills and Competencies**:
**Must-Haves**
- Professional Geologist / Professional Engineer registration or qualification
- 5 to 10 years of professional experience in mining exploration, including resource estimates and feasibility studies
- Experience with multiple mining methods and commodities, particularly base and precious metals
- Thorough and complete understanding of applicable securities legislation, in particular National Instruments 43-101 and CIM
- Understanding of Exchange Corporate Finance Policies, in particular policies relating to timely disclosure and mining standards
- Familiarity with the venture capital market and junior resource companies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to persuasively communicate to public companies
- Ability to work under pressure in a high-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Experience writing technical reports and press release disclosures would be an asset
