Classroom Infrastructure Technician

**Purpose**:
The Classroom Infrastructure Technician (CIT) role provides support for/of technologies within classrooms, meeting rooms and other general purpose academic or open spaces across all York campuses. The CIT role is a member of a team that is responsible for both the installation and maintenance of instructional technologies. The CIT role installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots a variety of equipment from audio-video and computing to various infrastructure elements including cabling and furniture (podiums, racks, mounting). The CIT role collaborates with and shares technical and operational knowledge with client services staff, other staff, and colleagues.
**Education**:
College Diploma, or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.Info COMM CTS/CTS-I certification is considered an asset.
**Experience**:
Three (3) years of continuous and progressive experience in an audio-visual, electronics, or media technical support and/or installation role in the last 5 years. Experience in installation and testing of audio-video technologies, computers, control systems, UPS power supply installations, along with experience in cable management, pulling and termination of a variety of cabling types and lengths, is required. Experience working in a large multi-room facility is considered an asset.
**Skills**:
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity, with the ability to read and interpret schematics and plans.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical users (written and oral).
Very good analytical and evaluative skills.
Ability to work independently, set priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Ability to perform effectively as part of a team.
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
Able to deal calmly and effectively with people.
Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently and meet long/short term deadlines.
Ability to attend accurately to details.
Ability and willingness to keep abreast of technological developments.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to write clear, concise procedural documentation, and ability to assist customers, end-users with the use of the technology through demonstration and instruction. Additional Knowledge:
Working knowledge of Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems.
Operational knowledge of electronics, audio and video systems along with working with electrically connected devices.
Knowledge and observance of the proper and safe use of equipment, e.g., ladders and lifts, hand tools, small power tools, safety boots required, other safety equipment to be used as and when required, Fall Arrest and WMIS training
