We are seeking passionate, creative, and reliable Early Childhood Educators to be a part of our Aboriginal Head Start Program. We are looking for individuals who understand cultural safety, and Indigenous ways of knowing and being. Also, applicants should value the importance of children’s connection to nature, as the program will embody a land-based curriculum. The Aboriginal Head Start Program will be an inclusive environment, and will focus on providing a high quality environment that supports and facilitates the holistic development of the child. The Early Childhood Educator will work directly within the Early Childhood Programs providing care and creative programming for children in the Centre.

We are looking for someone who operates with a high level of detail and organization; with high level of program planning skills. This role will give you the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and will require that you represent our Centre’s vision and values with spirit and professionalism.

Qualifications:

- Early Childhood Educator License to Practice
- Understanding of Cultural Safety
- Current First Aid certificate
- Ability to provide professional references
- Diplomas, certificates or other evidence of training related to child growth/development
- Experience working in a childcare or recreational setting

Skills & Abilities:

- High level of program planning skills and ability to translate into practice
- Trauma Informed Lens and understanding of emotional safety
- Strong understanding of child growth and development
- Ability to create culturally appropriate, developmentally appropriate and inventive programming
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a cohesive team
- Flexibility and ability to “go with the flow”
- High level of organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and with other effectively within an inter-disciplinary team setting

Pay: $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

- Nanaimo, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
