The national news anchor, for The News Forum’s national newscast Forum Daily, is responsible for delivering on-air daily news, from The News Forum’s designated studio location in St. Catharines, Ontario.
- The Anchor will work with the News Director and editors to determine key stories for The News Forum and participate in the development of each story as needed. The Anchor will work closely with contributing researchers, writers and journalists to generate daily content for The News Forum’s broadcast and digital platforms.
- The duties and responsibilities of The News Forum Anchor are extensive and require patience and perseverance. News anchor must stay up to date with trending stories and ongoing news on a daily basis.
- The Anchor must be prepared to engage in editing, investigative reporting, writing and meeting regular deadlines. Anchor will participate in preparing daily materials for the news program, chase interviews and generate interview questions/comments.
- Anchor shall contribute in developing story ideas and evaluate news leads. Anchor shall authenticate accurate information about articles through research, interviews and observation. Anchor shall write articles (for on-air and digital media) supported by appropriate information acquired through official providers, contributing sources and our internal research team. All news stories shall be completed within daily news cycles and workflows set by The News Forum.
- News anchor shall have strong and demonstrated on-air skills and must have outstanding communication skills in both written and oral form.
- Most daily reports shall be prepared by writing team. As part of the story team, Anchor shall supply editorial commentary and various content as instructed by News Director. The Anchor needs to be familiar with how to inscribe his/her own scripts, in addition to the materials prepared by the news writing team for the Teleprompter.
- News Anchor shall be prepared to produce special segments, conduct panel discussions and on air interviews as part of delivering news daily.
- The Anchor shall strictly follow tonality of The News Forum, as outlined by the CEO, or CCO/News Director.
- As needed, will communicate and liaise with production team of The News Forum for cohesive messaging and resourcing of stories/content.
- Follow editorial guidelines and tone of voice for the brand, ensuring that all content produced falls in line with TNF style and tone guidelines.
- Review all content and be familiar with each story before daily recording. Work with story team to ensure verbiage, story flow and accuracy.
- Present both live and pre-recorded news stories in a professional manner for broadcast and online segments.
- Manage social media and digital media accounts, as required within tone and brand guidelines of The News Forum.
- Cover live events, as required by TNF.
- Cover news stories as outlined and developed by ‘news team’.
- Be prepared to take on other related activities as required by The News Forum.
- The Anchor will report directly to the News Director.
- **Qualifications**
- Degree/diploma in journalism or related field
- Minimum of three years on-camera experience
- Demonstrated ability to read live teleprompter
- Personal demo reel required
- Willingness to relocate
