The Court of King’s Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province, hearing trials in civil and criminal matters and appeals from decisions of the Court of Justice.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Court of King’s Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province, hearing family, civil and criminal matters and appeals from decisions of the Court of Justice.

As the Executive Counsel for the Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench, you will provide expert legal, policy and management advice, and executive level support. This includes high-level support on issues management, performing or overseeing research for serious and complex legal matters. You will supervise a legal team (which includes the student-at-law program), and a team focused on resolution services.

As a member of the Court’s leadership team, you will provide input and strategic support to the overall management and direction of the Court. There is emphasis on maintaining a strong relationship and collaboration with Court operations to ensure that processes and policies are efficient. You need to lead business functions to ensure there is good data analysis to inform decision-makers, spearhead initiatives and drive business goals on behalf of the Court.

In addition to that you will also:

- Provide expert legal advice and executive level management support to the Associate Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench.
- Branch Management
- Liaison with Court Administration
- Provide leadership and director to a team of legal officers

French legal language proficiency (written and oral) is considered an asset for this position.

**Qualifications**:
A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) Degree supplemented with the following:

- The pay classification of Civil Crown Counsel 5 (CCC5) requires a 11+ years of directly related post bar legal experience.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligibility for membership is required.

Related legal experience includes extensive experience with Canadian and foreign legal research tools, well-developed research and analytical skills, and exceptional legal writing skills.

Other Assets:

- Education in Business (MBA, Public policy)
- Several years of leadership or management responsibility
- Court or tribunal experience
- Law journal and other legal writing experience.
