**Hours**: 20 hours/week; Monday - Friday 10am - 2pm

**Position Summary**:
The Humane Educator is responsible for delivering a variety of educational and outreach programs

offered by the Community Outreach department. This includes organizing and conducting

sessions, activities, and events that promote empathy and understanding towards animals. The

role involves working collaboratively with the Programs Lead on joint initiatives, and ensuring

effective and engaging program delivery while reporting to the Director of Community Outreach.**

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Maintains a strong commitment to welcoming, encouraging, educating, and engaging with

audiences of all ages and families of all types.
- Works to ensure every person is fully satisfied with the programs/services delivered.
- Books all WHS Education services, within and outside of the school system, and special

events as required.
- Facilitates and delivers in-shelter and in-school humane education programs on various

animal welfare and human-animal interaction issues.
- Participates in the Community Outreach Department as an active member to assess and

plan for audience needs including program development and evaluation.
- Represents the WHS in community and educational events, and within the WHS. Seek

opportunities for community awareness of WHS educational programs for children and
youth.
- Develops content necessary to support Marketing & Communications pertaining to the

Community Outreach Department.
- Prepares fully for scheduled presentations and arranges any necessary follow-up.
- Models/presents appropriate strategies to volunteers and counsellors and helps to

coordinate camp counsellors.
- Shares responsibility for maintaining effective communication within the Community

Outreach Department.
- Communicates effectively, professionally and respectfully with staff, managers, volunteers

and clients of the Winnipeg Humane Society.
- Other duties that arise or are assigned by the Director, Community Outreach.

**Qualifications & Experience**

The following are mandatory qualifications and experience for this role:
Specific to the job level
- High School Diploma.
- More than 12 months and less than or including two years’ experience required.
- Access to a vehicle and valid Manitoba driver’s license.

Specific to the role
- Experience working with children ages 3 - 16.
- Ability to deliver and adapt to educational lesson plans.
- Proven track record coordinating programs and services.
- Significant experience with community networking and outreach.
- Experience with online scheduling programs.

The following qualifications and experience are desired and would be considered assets:

- University or college degree in education or certificate in the fields of education or

childcare.
- Degree in animal welfare or related field.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment.
