Veteran Parent Support Role, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
2 weeks ago
This is a Temporary Part Time role for up to 12 months
Sinai Health is looking for an experienced professional to join our team as a Veteran Parent Support Role.
The Veteran Parent Support Role (VPSR) is a liaison between staff and parents whose baby(s) are currently in the Mount Sinai Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Veteran Parent Support Role works to ensure that parents are active members of the health care team. In order to fulfill this role, the Veteran Parent Support role must be the parent of a graduate from the NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital.
**About our NICU**
The NICU consists of 2 levels of specialized care: Level III and Level II. The NICU has 62 beds and provides care for infants who require assisted ventilation, intravenous nutrition, intensive cardiorespiratory monitoring and/or close nursing and medical care. Each year our team provides care for approximately 1,100 neonates. Family Integrated Care (FICare) is the philosophy that guides how we provide care for the infants in our NICU. This means parents are viewed as an integral part of the NICU team providing active care for their infant, instead of being in a passive support role.

- Develop and coordinate support to families in the NICU and Neonatal Fellow Clinic
- Actively participate on the Patient Advisory Committee (PAC) and attend Neonatal Team meetings
- Provide support to current NICU families as requested. This is an optional partnership and families may choose not to be involved with the Veteran Parent Support Role
- Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of services, programs or systems that enhance services to infants and families
- Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities
- Provide education for families and staff based on input from families using strategies that facilitate learning and open communication
- Provide education to all new staff, students and trainees (ex. Nursing orientation, new fellows) on principles of FICare
- Participate in NICU committees and the development of policies affecting families
- Improve Project, Quality Assurance, others as the PCM determines to be relevant
- Coordinate with social workers and team to collaborate on family’s care needs
- Facilitate (Co-lead) parent support groups as part of FICare programming in conjunction with NICU social workers
- Perform other duties related to the position as required
- Job Requirements
