**A** **ssistant Controller - The Westin Nova Scotian** You are a numbers person and handling complex financial reporting comes naturally to you. You have a deep understanding and proven track record of success and operational understanding in the accounting field. You know how to properly "control" the systems at a hotel, so as to deliver the needed result to the bottom line. You report directly to the Controller, with a team looking to you to provide assistance when it comes to viewing the property's financial picture. You assist with leading a team that ensures accurate and timely reporting. Your role also helps safeguards the owners/investors assets and confirms property-wide compliance with all federal, state, provincial and local laws. Your expertise in interpreting key data allows your GM and your co-workers to take the right steps so your hotel can deliver on the bottom line. In the role of Assistant Controller you will: - **Be the all-rounder** - ability to travel to the US if needed for training and support**.** Perform the weekly revenue forecast. Have an excellent working knowledge/perform the monthly forecasts. Able to perform the budget process from initialization to presentation. - **Be Accounting Savvy** - enforce the standards, policies and procedures needed for proper accounting and controllership and then keep a pulse on operational and financial performance. Actively assist with the budget process. Be proactive vs. simply reactive as needed in all areas financial that are assigned to you. - **Be a Communicator -** keep your Controller, GM and the management staff, as well as your co-workers - updated on important data and new systems/processes. Work closely with both your hotel and the corporate team, as applicable, to understand their priorities and expectations. If requested, communicate effectively and timely with your ownership group. - **Be a Team Player -** while this role does not typically manage a very large staff, it is one involved in all aspects of the property so needs to understand and support the various departments. - **Be the Keeper of the Contracts -** as the Assistant Controller you may be asked to review and maintain all contracts, getting corporate approval on contracts as needed. - **Be the Manager on Duty -** if requested. **Requirements**: **Requirements**: This role requires at least three years of progressive experience in hotel accounting or a related field. A 4-year college degree in Accounting/Finance preferred and/or completion or enrollment in an Accounting Designation program (e.g. CMA) preferred. To be successful in this role, you must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally in English with associates, guests, hotel management and - if required - ownership and to be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately. You must also be able to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of a particular need, with mathematical reasoning and the ability to prioritize required. This job requires light/sedentary work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently - with a regular need to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Long hours often required. This role will require the ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels, with near vision (the ability to see details at close range) required. The Assistant Controller will regularly use office equipment, e.g. a computer and various software programs.
