Volunteer Treasurer Position - Wolfville Business Development Corporation (WBDC)

Position Title: Volunteer Treasurer

Location: Wolfville, Nova Scotia

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, including attendance at monthly board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

About WBDC: The Wolfville Business Development Corporation is dedicated to fostering economic growth and supporting local businesses in the Wolfville area.

Role Overview: The Treasurer is a key member of the WBDC Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the organization. This role ensures that WBDC's financial practices are legal, transparent, and aligned with accepted accounting principles. The Treasurer maintains accurate financial records, manages the budgeting process, and provides regular financial updates to the board.

Key Responsibilities:

- Financial Management:o Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.o Oversee budget creation and monitor adherence throughout the fiscal year.o Process payroll and record expenses promptly.o Manage bank accounts, including deposits and reconciliations.o Ensure timely payment of invoices and bills. Reporting:o Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the board, highlighting key insights and any areas of concern.o Present comprehensive financial statements at the AGM. Compliance and Governance:o Ensure financial practices comply with legal requirements and WBDC's governing documents.o Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions.o Liaise with external auditors for year-end review. Strategic Contribution:o Advise the board on financial implications of strategic plans and initiatives.o Assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, including proposals for sponsorships and grants.

Qualifications:

- Experience in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation is advantageous but not mandatory. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is an asset.
