**About Us**
Barrie Housing is a non-profit housing provider in the City of Barrie, Ontario. The portfolio has a total of 964 apartments and townhouses located at 14 different locations across the city.
**The Position**
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of activities and programs designed to promote tenant engagement, community involvement and capacity building which address community needs and identified service gaps in a high-need environment.
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for implementing and delivering Barrie Housing's tenant engagement strategy. Some of their responsibilities include: implementing programs and services for tenants, administering tenant surveys, developing and implementing a social media strategy, developing partnerships with community agencies, seeking out grants and funding opportunities. The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist tenants with developing a Tenant Advocacy Committee and organize training, meetings, consultations, seminars and events to increase tenant engagement/community involvement. They will be responsible for creating promotional material and using various platforms to promote events and the work of Barrie Housing.
This is a full-time unionized position.
Hourly rate is $26.92.
The role requires a standard work week (Monday-Friday) 37.5 hours per week, hours may sometimes vary to accommodate activities and representing the organization at public events.
**About You**:
Able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Possess a valid Ontario Drivers License and have daily access to a vehicle.
University Degree or College Diploma in Community Development, Social Work or related discipline.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Experience with conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
Excellent multitasking and time management skills and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
**Essential Knowledge**
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in the Social Housing sector, or minimum two (2) years’ experience working with diverse client bases including homeless and under-housed people, as well as those experiencing issues relating to addictions/mental health
Experience working in a unionized environment
Experience working with diverse communities
Thorough understanding of the issues faced by our communities and how these issues affect the lives of individuals
Experience in participating in community development initiatives
Well-developed interpersonal skills that will facilitate effective, productive and appropriate relationships with the tenant community, external agencies and Barrie Housing staff
Strong computer proficiency
Ability to write grants is considered an asset
Working knowledge of various Housing Programs and legislation including: Residential Tenancies Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Human Rights Code, HSA, AODA etc.
