**JOB SUMMARY**

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient shooting of grades for civil construction pipe activities. This individual will use survey instruments to establish correct grade for construction projects. This individual must possess the ability to read plans, work with Field and Project Engineers to solve problems, and communicate and work collaboratively with all Equipment Operators.

**ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

- Work with the Foreman and the Crew to establish daily layouts and setups;
- Set elevations and grades for roads, underground utilities and other needs;
- Read drawings and check for completeness or errors;
- Produce accurate as-built drawings;
- Carefully review and understand drawing details at start of project to look for gaps in information;
- Achieve the correct grade by directing Equipment Operators to adjust grade by moving earth gravel and other material;
- Measure distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site;
- Verify curvature of graded surface using a hand level;
- Ensure all elevations are noted at end of the day in preparation for the next day or future work;
- Maintain complete field notes and analyze results; and prepare reports as needed;
- Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to Company and industry safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings;
- Understand issues involving ground disturbance and ability to work in and implement Safe Work Practices and contribute to a safe work environment;
- Ensure BC1 call is up to date and laid out with Foreman, Pipelayer and Operators;
- Identify hazards on site;
- Proficient use and maintenance of different types of levels and survey equipment, including proper storage of equipment at end of day;
- Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues;
- Responsible for equipment checks and informing Supervisors of mechanical problems with the equipment; and
- Ability to work as a team with other Crew on daily activities of the site.

**RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

**Education and/or Experience**
- Previous construction experience is essential;
- 2+ years civil construction pipe grading experience is preferred;
- Knowledge of elevations and grades for site grading, installing pipe and road construction;
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawing and instructions;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with Equipment Operators and Project Team;
- First Aid, Confined Space and Fall Protection training is an asset; and
- Understand Company and industry Safe Work Procedures and Safe Work Practices.

**Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements**
- Valid Driver’s License
- Required Company or Regulatory Certifications
- Required Company Safety Certifications

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Regularly required to sit and talk, hear and drive for an extensive period of time;
- Frequently is required to stand, walk, lift and carry tools, work with hands and drive vehicle;
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds;
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; and
- Able to wear the required safety personal protective equipment.

- Frequently exposed to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, cold, noise and other conditions common to a construction site;
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and
- Frequently exposed to work environment that consist of elevated noise level.

**Salary**: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
