**The Opportunity**:
Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) oversees all applied research initiatives at Olds College. In alignment with the college’s Growing 2025 strategic plan, OCCI and Olds College Smart Farm (OCSF) have expanded the college capacity to deliver applied research in crop production, livestock production, environmental stewardship, and smart agriculture and technology integration. The research program is a $7 million to $8 million annual portfolio involving funding from numerous federal and provincial grants, fee for service contracts, donations, and other revenue sources.

The Research Accounting Clerk will work closely with the Research Project Accountant to manage the finances of upward of 80 -100 research projects each year. The position will work closely with the Business Services department to ensure timely and accurate financial information is available to the research managers and other staff. The Research Accounting Clerk will be a key partner of the OCCI team ensuring our projects are well managed and our funding partners receive accurate and timely reports and information. This position reports directly to the Director, Applied Research.

**NOTE: This is a full-time, term position to June 30, 2025 with a possibly of extension**

**Key Job Functions**:

- Activities include monitoring active projects, assessment of expenses based on budget and agency compliance, transfer of expenses to different departments or projects as needed using currently available software and tools that are compatible with other College systems.
- Support management of accounts payable/receivable documentation, contracts and cheques.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and invoices for processing.
- Support OCCI month end activities, work with Research Project Accountant to distribute salary sources and recognize deferred revenue to external funding Sources.
- Support processes required for acquisition and procurement of supplies and equipment required for research operations and project activities.
- Support processes required to effectively manage research projects (e.g.: time tracking, metric tracking, asset management, etc.).
- Ensure accuracy of accounting journal entries.

- Maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information is a fundamental requirement for this position, ensuring the utmost discretion and integrity in handling all data and communications.

**Skills and Knowledge**:

- 1-year certificate required; 2 year diploma preferred in a related field (e.g. office admin, business administration or accounting) or combination of experience.
- A minimum of 2 years frontline work experience in a fast-paced environment with a proven focus on exceptional customer/client service. Experience in a post-secondary research environment is considered an asset.
- Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Strong technical skills as well as an aptitude for learning new software quickly.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to manage financial transactions with a high level of internal controls ensuring accuracy, completeness and proper controls in cash handling, the segregation of duties, and reconciliations.
- Required to multitask on a variety of duties in addition to fielding calls and in-person inquiries from students, staff and visitors.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and work independently as required.
