**Role Responsibilities**:
This is a seasonal, up to 3-month wage opportunity within Alberta’s Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance program. The CWD Field Technician distributes remote freezers to local vendors across Alberta and then collects heads of hunter-killed deer from the freezers. They then manage and deliver the heads to the lab for testing.

The major responsibilities of a CWD Field Technician include:
**Initial Program Setup**: delivering and setting up collection freezers at various vendor locations, contacting road maintenance contractors, distributing CWD program information

**Sample Delivery**: photocopying green CWD tags, delivering tags and samples to testing labs (Edmonton, Airdrie and Lethbridge)

**Program Shut Down**: Retrieving, cleaning, and properly storing freezers; completing inventory check list.

Challenges in this position include long periods of driving (at times in inclement weather), organizing, tracking, and delivering large numbers of heavy frozen incoming heads, and being efficient while responsive to unanticipated aspects of winter field activities. **This position will also require working a modified work week to accommodate weekend hunting**.

Eight positions are available, and individuals will be based in local urban centers adjacent to the assigned geographic work area. Residence (based on necessity) and meals will be compensated by the CWD program for the duration of the work term.

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum requirements**:

- High school diploma plus one year of related experience in conservation enforcement
- Experienced in winter driving, trailer towing, and operating large pickup trucks.

**Additional requirements**:

- 5-years Driver's Abstract with less than 3 demerits plus Class 5 Driver's license

**Assets**:

- Winter driving experience, preference for defensive driving
- Experience using tow trailers and large pickup trucks
- Good physical condition and able to lift at least 50lbs
- Experience with hunting large game or working with large domestic animals in the agricultural industry

**We are recruiting seasonal wage Field Technicians based in Edmonton. There are up to 8 positions available, with weekly hours up to 36.25.**

This position will require working a modified work week to accommodate weekend hunting.

**Please Note**: These positions are in various locations across Alberta depending on the driving routes assigned. Accommodations will be provided where necessary.

This position has a term of employment from October 8, 2025, to December 19, 2025.

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
