**_This posting is for 1 hourly position for up to 14 weeks. _**

Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture is currently seeking motivated and engaged individuals to work as part of our dynamic Park Operations team.

As a Labourer 1, you will support outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Strathcona County. Employees will contribute to the construction, maintenance and inspections of park assets and infrastructure. Manual labour, operating small tools and equipment and completing reports are some of the tasks that will be expected of position. These tasks will include playgrounds, spray parks, skate parks, tennis/pickleball courts, outdoor hockey rinks, fences etc.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform manual tasks that supports outdoor parks operations including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, screwdrivers, etc.)
- Complete training for safe operation of small tools and equipment (Drills, chainsaws, backpack blowers, water pumps etc.)
- Operate various fleet units from ½ ton to one ton trucks, small UTV’s and other ride on equipment such as John Deere gators and Toro Sand Buggy
- Follow safety guidelines, polices and procedures to insure the safety of individual, others and visitors in the workplace.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a professional manner that supports a positive work culture.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time
- Ability to use computers and technology
- Ability to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, SDS and WHMIS regulations
- Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement weather

**Qualifications**
- Minimum Grade 10 education
- Minimum of one year driving experience
- Experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools
- Previous experience in landscaping, construction, road work, concrete finishing and inspections, playground, would be considered an asset
- Experience operating small equipment would be considered an asset

**Conditions of Employment**
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Current and valid Standard First Aid Certification
- Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
- Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions
- Ability to work a variety of shift work
