YWCA Metro Vancouver’s Axis program provides employment services for individuals who identify as visible minority women who have experienced violence. The team will provide one to one holistic services and wrap-around supports for women from visible minority communities with pre-employment skills training to move towards employment and/or substantive education. The staff team is comprised of one Manager and 2.5 team members to deliver this target-based employment program, and will provide program services virtually and in-person where needed in the Metro Vancouver region.

Under the general supervision of the Axis Program Manager, the Axis Career Advisor is responsible for working closely with program staff to ensure Survivors of Violence in target populations are reached, enrolled and participate in overcoming the impacts of violence and/or abuse to move towards employment and/or substantive education.

**Responsibilities**:

- Career Advisors of the YWCA’s Axis program provide specialized employment services following an individual service-based model to support participants who identify as visible minority women Survivors of Violence and/or Abuse
- Ensure safety plan and basic needs are in place and work with participants to refer to counselling, community resources and other referrals as appropriate
- Work collaboratively within the community and YWCA to create resource partnerships addressing issues related to violence/abuse
- Strong ability to work with participants with different needs, backgrounds, learning styles and employment goals
- Facilitate soft skills training, employment readiness, essential skills and provide one-to-one coaching
- Assist participants in developing healthy boundaries, confidence, resilience and coping skills
- Work collaboratively within the wider YWCA ecosystem to ensure optimization of cross referrals
- Provide job search coaching; assist participants in identifying and overcoming employment barriers, setting realistic career goals, and creating and following action plans
- Assist participants with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, and labour market information and trend research
- Providing career coaching, resource counselling and work experience placements for participants
- Develop Individualized Client Training Plans and provide key resources to support client goals
- Assist participants to participate in the Single Parents Employment Initiative and wider WorkBC services where eligible
- Conducting specialized outreach in the community to recruit participants to engage in services
- Participate in weekly Case Conferencing with program staff to discuss participant and employer issues, and placement opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops to women from the Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin and Punjabi communities.
- Establishing and fostering effective relationships with local community partners to promote the program and recruit eligible participants
- Provide ongoing feedback/input of program development, evaluation and design
- Maintain accurate participant records and confidentiality, as per CARF standards
- Report program outcomes to Program Manager
- Liaise with other community and external stakeholders to promote and engage issues specific to visible minority violence.
- Meet with employers to create training plans and complete paperwork
- Participate in events / roundtables
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Proficiency in English and Punjabi Languages
- Experience in career counselling, social work, job development and/or working with visible minority communities
- Experience and knowledge working with trauma informed clients an asset
- Knowledge of issues and barriers that this cohort can face and the ability to provide solutions to meet these barriers
- Proven experience to work independently and part of a team to deliver exemplary service
- Either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience
- Excellent computer skills (all Microsoft Applications), Sharepoint and OneDrive
- CCDP certification is an asset
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- A demonstrated positive attitude towards change
- A criminal record check will be required
