Summary
We are looking to hire a legal analyst with outstanding legal, organizational and clerical skills. Reporting to the CEO or a designated executive, the Legal Analyst will be a key member of NWAC’s legal team and will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of legal department, including records management, monitoring of legal invoicing matters and general departmental support. The incumbent must be capable of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and should be capable of withstanding a high level of work pressure.

General duties
The Legal Analyst will:

- Conduct legal research and gather related legal information.
- Decipher laws, rulings and regulations in legal documents when called upon.
- Assist legal team members as required in preparations for presentations, meetings and/or conferences
- Proofread and edit drafts of contracts, leases, licenses, policies and other legal documents.
- Monitor, study and develop written summaries of anticipated and endorsed legislation, regulations, court decisions, industry standards, trade journals and other relevant publications.
- Daily record keeping with electronic and physical filing of documents.
- Synthesize and organize information and create reference tools for easy use by the team.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams seeking legal and regulatory support, obtain legal opinion where required and respond to inquiries.
- Maintain and update databases and tracking systems.
- Manage legal invoicing processes,
- Handle administrative duties like. responding to correspondence and answering telephone calls.
- Corporate governance and entity management; coordinate with outside agents/counsel as necessary

Education
- Two years of experience as a legal analyst or similar.
- Analytical thinker with strong theoretical and research proficiencies.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret legal documents.
- Thorough knowledge of databases and tracking systems.
- Solid organizational skills and detail-orientation.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and in conflict situations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Indigenous peoples, groups, or organizations is an asset; and,
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Not-for-Profit organizations or corporations is a big plus.

Knowledge Requirements
- Some knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and internationally, their cultures, histories and traditions;
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary concerns and issues in the doing of Indigenous business in Canada.
