**The Role**:
We are seeking a caring and motivated Care Assistant to support the daily needs of adults with developmental disabilities in our day program and support the maintenance and cleanliness of our centre. This includes providing personal care to individuals and supporting them to learn independence in managing their daily living needs. The role includes elements of teaching and training individuals with developmental disabilities in regards to learning daily living skills. The Care Assistant will also complete daily cleaning and sanitation tasks to maintain the health and safety of our centre.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living (toileting, skincare, dressing, administering medication, light meal preparation, feeding, bathing, etc.) to adults in the day program
- Supervise trainees to manage their personal hygiene as independently as he/she can.
- Respects each trainee as an individual and is aware of their need for self-respect and privacy, and the right to share in decisions about their care
- Prepare accurate and complete case notes and records, correspondences, reports and other written materials.
- Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is achieved throughout the center, contributing to keep all center entrances and learning areas neat and tidy on a daily basis, free of any dirt/debris or tripping hazards to present an extraordinary experience for trainees, families, and visitors.
- Perform a variety of regular cleaning activities around the center such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and dusting.
- Collect and dispose of garbage and waste according to the building waste removal and recycling policies.
- Fill and replenish toilet tissue, soaps etc. to the required standards.
- Assist in regular sanitation of classrooms, office, kitchen, and learning materials as needed.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and appliances and keep all in good working order, advising the Executive Director if repairs are needed.
- Operate cleaning equipment and use designated chemicals and other cleaning products safely and in accordance with instructions.
- Complying with the safe use of electrical equipment, chemicals and solvents (WHMIS requirements for labels and safety data sheets SDSs) this includes the use of warning signs.
- Adhere strictly to rules regarding health & safety so as to ensure a safe working environment for all.
- Attend and participate in supervisory sessions with the Program Supervisor or the Executive Director as scheduled.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in agency privacy and confidentiality policy.
- Perform other duties/assignments as assigned by the Program Supervisor and the
Executive Director.

**Requirements**:

- Completion or currently enrolled in a related field of study (ex. Healthcare, Personal Support Worker, Nursing, Social Services). International qualifications will be considered.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the job (ex: ability to stand, bend, walk, crouch, kneel and reach freely for extended periods, ability to lift 50lbs
independently, ability to assist clients with standing, walking, sitting)
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional personal care
- Minimum 1 year experience working with Adults with caring needs in a professional setting
- Fluent in English. Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, or another language is an asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
