Underwriting Specialist

- Lead renewal and maintenance processes of assigned portfolios according to the BU’s SOP
- Work with cross-functional resources, actively drive the implementation of Underwriting strategies (e.g. Pricing), propositions, and solutions (e.g. product development, underwriting tools and processes) for assigned portfolios
- Own the portfolio and take necessary underwriting and broker actions on the book of business in accordance with guidance provided by the segment
- Serve as key contact for assigned target accounts
- Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
- Lead the onboarding process for qualified new business opportunities
- Update required systems with details of broker / client visits and account status within specified time frame.
- Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports.
- Develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.
- Initiate product development idea
- Provide expertise on coverage issues with claims programs and guidelines
- Contribute to development of u/w manuals, programs and guidelines
- Participate in the due diligence and audit process on certain BU portfolios
- Approve/place facultative reinsurance
- Be a key contributor and help build and selectively manage portfolio’s overall GWP, LR and CR objectives
- Develop and lead marketing presentations to new and current agents/brokers
- Promote the organization's products and services in order to increase penetration
- Ensure the successful completion of projects by maintaining continuing dialogue with business unit sponsors during implementation of major projects
- Diagnose and develop recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems
- Participate in Sales Team meeting as related to assigned brokers and / or territory.
- Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table- Required:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in SME-Mid Market Underwriting
- OR- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

OR- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting o r Market Facing area (ADD POP addendum)

OR- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Unde rwriting Support area

AND- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Experience working in a team environment

Preferred:

- Bachelors Degree
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commercial underwriting experience in various LOB (P&C, auto and financial lines)- Problem-solving and critical thinking
- Strong Relationship Building and verbal, written and interpersonal skills both in English and French
- Completed or pursuing CIP or FCIP
- Team focused
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
